underdog Posted May 6, 2005 RHEINFELDEN, Germany: An estranged German husband shot and killed his two children, his parents and his wife before turning the gun on himself, police said yesterday. Authorities suspected a marital crisis as the motive behind the bloodbath in this southern German town. “The evidence and the course of events indicate that this was not a spontaneous decision but had been planned for a long while,†the chief of police in the nearby city of Lorrach. The 41-year-old man had lived apart from his Somali wife and their four- and seven-year-old children. His 30-year-old spouse had found a new partner and wanted a divorce. The father, who had joint custody of the children, ordered them and his 74-year-old and 79-year-old parents into their beds Saturday before killing them one by one with a shot to the head. When his wife returned from work and shopping, the man then forced her into their former bed and shot her. There were no signs of a struggle. In the early evening, the man alerted the police to “an incident†and gave them his address. He then lay down next to his wife and shot himself. He was taken to a local clinic after the police arrived and died there yesterday. The man left a note explaining his desperation over the upcoming divorce.
