UAE trainers left Bosaso

Recommended Posts

Gaas has been been following dowladda dhexe positions in the past couple of months. I don't know if this has to do more with the political turmoil in Adisababa than anything else. Or perhaps the very warm, welcoming reception Farmaajo received in gobollada Bari iyo gobollada dhexe has to do with it.

All in all, those maamul goboleed certainly have been more restraining and quiet, and far more in tune for dowladda dhexe's positions in recent past.

I hope Puntland and Gaas continue to cooperate with federal government. This kind of move sends strong message to UAE and others.

The government in Mogadishu must pass some of the foreign aid to these regions for development.

The UAE and others were allowed to bring weapons and other things without inspection. They had an agreement with Hassan Sheikh to fy in without no one knowing their intensions. Simple inspections at entry points  could reduce the terrorism and extremist financing financial  of  the gulf countries in Somalia.

I would put an army to control the entry points of BAy and Bakool region to stop Ethiopian weapons reaching Al-Shabaab in Somalia.

lol galbeedi,

I think you are giving too much credit to Ethiopia. Do you forget that Ethiopia is a poor third world country? Or were you involved in some campaign with the likes of Shiek Aweys and failed flat on your face against Ethiopia?

The current regime of Ethiopia got involved with both Bay and Bakool and also Puntland at very difficult times. Some relationships established in difficult times are hard to break because galbeedi is dead set to always consider Ethiopia as enemy.

The interaction may be more or less, but do not expect the people in Puntland or Bay and Bakool to see Ethioia as an enemy. They have no bad experience with Ethiopia.

Somalia is not on its two feet, because Bay and Bakool has friendly relations with Kilil or federal Ethiopia. Somalia is not back on its two feet because of what happens in Mogadishu and Ethiopia has less role than Kenya or Uganda there.

You cannot conduct nation's business by persobnal preference or emotions. I know not many people are focusing, but Jubaland will be biggest player soon.

Me thinks Puntland has too many internal and external problems all at the same time and not quite clear direction from all the options. The president needs to make some trips to Djibouti and Kilil as well as Addis Ababa. I am afraid as Terrorism gets squeezed out from South west and central will move to Puntland. All versions like Ahlu Al Suna will never forget to hit at Puntland if the right opportunity avails.

Just too many problems and not much help from SFG that is so preoccupied in Mogadishu.

UAE plane blocked from leaving Somalia's Puntland region

Somali officials at Bosaso airport insisted that 'heavy bags' be checked, resulting in hours-long row, local media say.

Somali officials are said to have stopped a plane from the United Arab Emirates from leaving the country after Emirati military trainers on board refused to hand over their luggage to be scanned and searched.

The local news website Mareeg reported on Saturday that Somali officials at Bosaso airport insisted that the "heavy bags" on the flight be checked, resulting in an hours-long standoff.

It added that talks were under way between Somali's semiautonomous Puntland region and the UAE to end the dispute.

The UAE foreign ministry has not commented on the matter.

The news comes just days after Somalia's government seized several bags of money carrying almost $10m from a plane that arrived at Mogadishu airport from Abu Dhabi.

The money was found in three unmarked bags on a Royal Jet plane, the Somali interior ministry said, adding it was investigating where it came from, where it was going and the individuals involved.

"The security forces noticed the suspicious bags and handed them over to the concerned departments," Somalia's security ministry said in a statement.

UAE reaction

Responding to the Somali action, the UAE had accused the security forces of holding those on the plane "at gunpoint", and said the cash had been allocated to support the Somali army and trainees.

"The current Somali government ... is creating unnecessary tensions with a friend and an ally who supported the stability and security of Somalia during its hardest phases," Anwar Gargash, UAE's junior minister for foreign affairs, said on Twitter.

"We call for wisdom and reason".

Relations between Mogadishu and Abu Dhabi have been frosty since June last year after Mogadishu resisted UAE and Saudi pressure to cut ties with Qatar following a dispute between the Gulf neighbours.

Somalia said it was neutral in the GCC diplomatic rift.

And last month, Abu Dhabi agreed to train security forces in Somaliland - a region in northern Somalia seeking secession from the rest of the country.

The UAE has also signed with Somaliland a 30-year concession to manage the semiautonomous northern region's Berbera port.

Somalia has dismissed the agreement and called on the UN to take action.

Speaking at the UN Security Council last month, Abukar Osman, Somalia's ambassador to the UN, said the agreement between Somaliland and the UAE to establish the base in Berbera is a "clear violation of international law".

Osman called on the Security Council to "take the necessary steps" to "put an end to these actions".

"The Federal Government of Somalia strongly condemns these blatant violations, and reaffirms that it will take the necessary measures deriving from its primary responsibility to defend the inviolability of the sovereignty and the unity of Somalia," he said.

This whole thing is misleading,, Emirates decided to leave and puntland were trying to stop them from leaving  and telling the emirates that they got nothing to do with muqdisho.

That is nonsense. Why will they leave, they already invested money in Bosaso port, they would love nothing better than to have Puntland side with UAE rather than FG. just like the secessionist enclave.

Puntland always differs to FG for issues of national security and does not consider itself a separate country. Puntland is indeed a federal state that follows the constitution. Most Somalis have no idea what a federal system is and want to go back to the centralized system of late dictator Siyad Barre where only Mogadishu decides everything.

Oodweyne you have wild imagination. They were detained because they were taking military equipment out with them. Once they surrounded the equipment they were let go. The rest of your post does not make sense.
