Khayr Posted May 3, 2010 The duty of an Imam is not to pass judgment only Allah has the right to pass such judgment. from the family That is wrong. An Imam by definition is a mujtahid, one that makes decisions and leads through their decision making. The Imam did his part and was right in his approach. He did his research and if he was errored he will get ajar (because the intention was there) and if he was right (as the reaction shows) then he gets double the ajar. On another note, For those that quoted the incident wherein the rasul (salallahu caliyhe wasilm) stood up when he saw the funeral procession. That was to pay respect to the dead, to the soul and there are adab in the deen that reflect that. That however doesn't mean it was an acceptance that the deceased was going to janna or hell. It does does validate performing jannaza on a murtad, munfaaq or a fasiq. Simply put!
