Viking Posted August 1, 2004 -Why is there a women's section but no men's section on SOL? -Is it assumed that all the other sections are 'for men' and therefore women were given one? -For the sake of fairness and gender equality, shouldn't there also be a men's section on these boards? I am just wondering what the thoughts of my fellow nomads are on this issue.
sheherazade Posted August 2, 2004 Yes, do give the men a section so our women may have a playground.
nuune Posted August 2, 2004 many nomads agreed that if we had a men's section, there would be nothing to talk about, in fact xaraartada waxay ku jirtaa women's section, that is where i escape to, ladies also should have a men's section to escape to for boring sake

Viking Posted August 2, 2004 How can we dismiss something we haven't tried? I haven't yet heard any rational explanation as to why the should be a women section and not a men section. If it's a section for 'relationships and romance' as it says on the women's section, then maybe that's what it should be called. Is it a section FOR women or a section for TALKING ABOUT women? I don't really get it. I have been browsing SOL for the past three years or so but I only started browsing the women's section after I had joined as a member a few months ago...I always used to think..ooh..not there...that's a place for women only. Viking waa u jeedaa gabdhahaa wax kaste in loo sameeyey. Qaar koodna (Ciidamada faraha ku sugada leh) ee wili nadaba joogaan oo ee leeyihin nin this nin that. wareer badana ma cudur nin layiraahdo bee qabaan. Feebaro, Wareerka waxaa keeney wax yaalahan oo kale. Everyone should be treated equally, if we treat women like victims then they'll keep acting like victims. loool @ "geberi maanyo jiis ah",
sheherazade Posted August 3, 2004 Cajiib. Didn't realise being provided with a women's section was perpetuating women's so-called victimhood. Having a women's section provides neither absolute privacy nor relevance. There are no relationships without men, no romance without men. Unless we're meant to be trading Mills and Boon stories alone, the blurb should be changed. At best it's thoughtful at worst it's patronising. Each of us makes of it what we will. There should be a men's section. The men seem to find comfort asking certain questions in the women's section. Maybe the women will find the same in a men's section. It would be interesting to read what goes on in the mind of the 'prepetrators'..
Reality Check Posted August 3, 2004 Every year or so, a topic like this one starts up. And every year, you don't get a men's section. So stop being so damn emotional about it, why doncha!
