Caano Geel Posted February 9, 2006 Z, I remember reading this when i was at school, i dont know who it is by, but maybe it will help When I was born, I was black… When I went to school, I was black… When I am cold, I am black… When I am afraid, I am black… When I am sick, I am black… When I am happy, I am black… And when I die, I am still black… How about you my white friend? When you are born, you are pink… When you go to school, you are white… When you are cold, you are blue… When you are afraid, you are pallid… When you are sick, you are yellow… And when you die, you are gray… So…you call me a 'colored person'? ---anon. Sayyid Posted February 9, 2006 It depends, neither of them really fits in with my skincolour. To be truely coloured I'd have to be a rainbow and to be black I'd had to be really black. I am brown both terms are missing the point. The same with "white", what is really white? No one can be white. Brown and proud. Brown Power!
Cara. Posted February 9, 2006 Colored, because it's inaccurate. It means you're mulatto (mixed). Black is beautiful!
Arawella Posted February 9, 2006 The term coloured is both incorrect and racist; it makes me feel like an incomplete painting. Black is equally degrading if not as insulting and when used it is usually associated with negativity while white implies pure.

J.Lee Posted February 9, 2006 I'm neither white, colored, nor black. I wouldn't be offended simply because I don't see myself that way.
- Femme - Posted February 9, 2006 Calypso; Really, really believe it? Or are you saying this because your already black, have no choice in the matter, and its much better to accept than wish for something you will never get? I'm asking because when people tell me these lines of 'black is beautiful' and 'the blacker the berry, the sweeter the juice' I keep asking them questions till they admit that they'd rather be any other colour than black. I'd ask if you could be any race which one would you be, they'd say somali. Don't you wonder why no one says 'I'd love to be sudanese, or west african'. Trust me, deep down inside people are terrified of being pitch black with kinky hair. The true black look. Hope that makes sense. I read it too and I got confused, the point is though---people generally say that to make themselves feel better. Aight. And when you ask them to choose between the african races they always say either 'somali, ethopian' or some other people that are closer to the caucasion features than real 'black'. Ok? Zafir Posted February 9, 2006 Posted by Lavie The term coloured is both incorrect and racist; it makes me feel like an incomplete painting. Black is equally degrading if not as insulting and when used it is usually associated with negativity while white implies pure. If a Caucasian person was to describe you to a police officer, how would they explain what you look like, if you take an offence to either terms? I personally would take an offence to be called a colored person, cause; it carries a negative vibe such as lower class or unworthiness of some sort. Black? Am black. Sayyid, The Brown label is owned by Indians; therefore, you’re black bro. kooleey We're not talking about the color black, but the label it carries Black girl Black man Black woman
Jacpher Posted February 9, 2006 I'll tell you what's offensive. Calling your folks f.a.q.a.sh & m.i.d.g.a.a.n is offensive.
- Femme - Posted February 9, 2006 ^I know what the M refers to but what does f.a.q.a.s.h mean? I've come across it a couple of times.
