ADNAAN Posted April 27, 2007 Salam to all This topic might have already being discussed nonetheless am trying to initiate some sort of an appeal among the SOL members. For that matter, I would very much appreciate if someone who knows about Somali charities could post their contact details on this thread, in particular Somali owned humanitarian agencies. I am sure many of us will be willing to help those very unfortunate brother & sisters in Xamar. Unfortunately, I guess humanitarian relieve is the only kind of help most of us will be able to offer in these turbulent times. Remember this little money will help in a big way people who after Ilaahey have no one else to turn to but us. (Ilaahey ha u gargaaree)
Lois Lane Posted April 28, 2007 Salam to you walaal, I have been asking myself the same questions lately. I am more then ready to help my fellow somalis. I participate in any kinds of gathering (not at the local coffee shop)where people discuss ways to aid ours. So far I believe the best thing to do is to start with yourself, try to participate in rallies and protests if theres any in your area. Also try to send letters of concern to your local representative, they might not care for one persons opinion but the more WE as a people whether in Somalia or abroad let our voice be heard, the more others will notice that theres a problem and we refuse to just stand by and watch our people die endlessly! P-s: let me know if theres any legit humanitarian organisation that you find about.
Libaax-Sankataabte Posted April 28, 2007 Just go to any major Hawala outlet and ask how you can give Sadaqah to the suffering people of Mogadishu. It shall be taken care of. Also, Muslim Aid is heavily involved in Somalia. It may not be a bad idea to contact them. I know some of our nomads work for this organization and travel home quite often. http://www.muslimaid.org

Blessed Posted April 28, 2007 UAE members can send donations via Red Crecent UAE... UAE launches relief operation in Somalia The Red Crescent Authority (RCA) of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has launched a relief operation in the war-torn African country of Somalia, Emirates News Agency reported on Wednesday. "The RCA will deliver food and medical aid to the tune of 11 million dirhams (about 3 million U.S. dollars) to displaced people in Somalia," RCA Chairman Khalifa Nasser Al Suweidi was quoted as saying. The assistance was ordered by the UAE President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Al Suweidi added. "The RCA is intensifying its relief operations in Somalia to fend off the potential risks that most poor and underprivileged sectors might face," he said. The UAE humanitarian group is "working to meet the basic needs of displaced population from food, medicines to shelter," he added. The devastating warfare in Mogadishu, Somalia's capital, began late last year when the country's transitional government called for Ethiopian troops to help drive away the Supreme Council Islamic Courts (SCIC). According to the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR), more than 320,000 people have fled Mogadishu since February. Since Somalia's civil war broke out in 1991, militia loyal to clan and sub-clan-based factions have controlled different parts of the country, with no central authority to provide law and order or basic services to the population. ADNAAN Posted April 28, 2007 Waad mahdsantiin lois, libaax & kimi. Probably Muslim aid will be the easiest to donate to. In any case, I will phone them just to see if I the money will go to Somalia. I have already managed to get together a group of Somalis and other muslms who want to help out. But don’t u guys think it is a good idea to organise s/thing in sol ?! don’t really know how that would work but it is just a thought.
