maakhiri1 Posted March 13, 2018 Somali parliament on Monday banned the DP World from Somalia barely two weeks after Emirati ports operator unveiled its agreement with Ethiopia and Somaliland. In a hotly debated session, Somali lawmakers jointly declared the company a threat to the country’s sovereignty, independence and unity. “DP World had deliberately infringed on the country’s sovereignty there for it has been banned from operating in the country,” reads resolution issued after the session. The resolution said the agreement between Ethiopia, Somaliland and DP World was against the country’s Provisional Constitution . “Any agreement engaged in a country or organization which is not based on the provisional constitution of Somalia is null and void, therefore all the deals signed with Dubai Port World are invalid as they are against the country’s constitution, foreign investment regulations and other regulations of the country,” the resolution ruled. The move comes barely a day after Somali president warned the foreign countries and companies against breaching the country’s sovereignty. "Whoever wishes to engage investment in Somalia should seek the permission from the legal institutions of the government. Somalia's foreign policy is based on neutralism and mutual respect," he told the opening session of parliament. The ban will also affect the agreement between Puntland state and DP World's P&O ports which was granting the company to manage the port for 30 years. "I am warning companies and countries not to cross the line and put to question the sovereignty of Somalia". Early this month, Dubai announced a tripartite agreement dividing the Berbera port between DP World (51%), the Ethiopian government (19%), and Somaliland (30%). The Somali government‘s ministry ports had previous termed the deal as null and void.
maakhiri1 Posted March 13, 2018 This company will never be allowed to operate in SOMALIA, Bosaaso and Berbera have to look a new partner, maybe Turkish, maybe Americans.. Those arrogant arabs thought they could buy SOMALIS.

Puntland is under tremendeous pressure from every side of Somali regions and country. Unless Mr. Farmaajo has done a lot of work behind the scene, his government will not do well with Puntland. He better share a lot of money the SFG gets with Puntland. Congratulation to you also. That is what most people wanted SFG to do and then move on.

He can't seem to side with Emirates,he pissed others with Tukuraq situation and political heavy weights are lining to dethrone him. The question what would SFG do for regions like Puntland?

Duufaan Posted March 13, 2018 19 minutes ago, maakhiri1 said: What do you think GAAS will do who is sitting on the deal he had with DP World? It is all about how much more money DP world will give him. He can not even pay the government salary. I do not think, they have any more money to share with Somalis. And they have continued to give and give. DP world will not put any money to invest neither Boosaaso or Berbera ports. The ports are losing business and need repairs and investment. They will try to manage it without the promised investment.
Old_Observer Posted March 13, 2018 Lets not count the chickens before they are hatched. There is some news that Sherif Hassan Shiek Aden is on the move to oust the speaker. I am not sure if it has to do with this motion on DP World. This man is always trouble maker for every government from first TFG till this SFG. Never goes away, never rests, never hides..amazing. Duufaan Posted March 13, 2018 Bad timing. It will not work anytime soon. Shariif is not popular. Gaas , Madoobe and Shariif are all running reelection and all of them will lose.
Duufaan Posted March 13, 2018 Maybe Madoobe will win
galbeedi Posted March 13, 2018 OO, Stay with the topic. No one can raise their head and even say any thing nice about the gulf boys these days. In fact, the Somali knifes are out these days. Is that what Ethiopia is relying on these days?. Other than few sesionists everyone is in line. We Somalis might be tribal in some cases, but in terms of liberty and sovereignty , we are more united than anyone. I talk to people from different background and they all speak the same voice on these issues. I know you like talking about Somaliland or Puntland or that regions or something similar, or make the Somali issue as a balkanized . At this In this juncture Somalis are different. If you check social media, there are a whole new group of young men and women who are nationalist despite hailing from different parts of the country. Please do not rai on our parade because when we are united, we could move mountains. If those who want to dethrone Gaas are Faroole and his minions, I will stick to C/weli Gaas. He supports Farmaajo and the national project. I think , Gaas should give Boosaaso to the Turks or Singapore. America is broke.
galbeedi Posted March 13, 2018 DP World does not have any money to spare. THey are pinching every penny in Berbera. The freight that used to came through Wajaale is no more. People are broke from Berbera to Wajaale. They have fired already a third of the workforce. The intension of DP is to hold Berbera as ransom until other issues including the geopolitical issue of Djibouti , Aden (Yemen) and Somalia is resolved. THey will suck the money out of Berbera and throw few bucks to the ruling class without investing any real money. Hoe can an agreement will be signed in spring of 2017, and then again in 2018 with another agreement. The fact is that Siilaanyo and those hungry boys cashed few millions for a port that is worth half a billion dollars. Muuse Biixi could not find one single region in Somaliland to support this move. Mogadishu even told him that there will not be any useless talks in Djibouti or any where else. That was probably the main reason he was crying. 1
Old_Observer Posted March 13, 2018 galbeedi, Being Tigray AI is not easy. Can't help finding news here and there. You are so confident to the level of bragging about something yet the slightest negative news sends you to treat the Somali people like an egg shell. I would give you a friendly suggestion: The Somali people whether regions or countries will be there, hopefully in a much better shape, long after you and I have tired. Come to think of it, your favourite Oromos will be there as well even if they do not make it to the Palace as you thought would be a cake walk for them, trumpling over Somali bodies. Whether you are anti-federal system or some other system, politics is always local and add to it economy is even more local down to an individual.
