FM says Somaliland on the edge to indefinitely suspend the talks with Somalia

Somaliland authority has said that it is seriously thinking of suspending the stalled talks with Somalia amid strained relations over the tripartite agreement signed with Somaliland, Ethiopia and DPW.

The Foreign Minister of Somaliland has talked about Kenya’s intention to bring Miraa Khat to Somaliland markets.

Dr. Sa’ad Ali Shire has said that Miraa Khat from Kenya is consumed in Lasanod, Sool’s provincial capital.

He added that Somaliland is welcoming to have good trade ties particularly with its neighbor and further said that there are many Kenyan nationals living in the country at the moment.

Once asked about if DPW and Somaliland could not sell share of the agreement for five years, the FM has rebuffed saying that it untrue and that both can sell their share whoever they want.

The minister has responded in a question saying that having the terms of agreement was modified in the inclusion of Ethiopia, Is it compulsory for the govt to table the agreement before the parliament.

The FM said that they will apply the laws of the land.

Dr. Sa’ad has thanked Turkey for its mediation role in regard to the talks between Somaliland and Somaliland and further said that they will welcome another country to assume the duty.

The FM said that Somaliland is seriously thinking on the suspension of the stalled talks with Somalia indefinitely due to Somalia’s rejection of the tripartite pact.

The FM has stated that due to the tension which is rising and Somalia has hatred against the deal then there is favorable environment that we can come to the negotiation table.

The minister is hoping a peaceful and prosperous future for Somaliland people all cross the country.
