maakhiri1 Posted March 7, 2018 Why Tuur was exiled for many years if he was the founder? and returned only as bed-ridden in 2003 and died few months later, is this part of re-writing history? . Further, in April 1994, the first head of state of the self-proclaimed republic, Abdirahman Ahmed Ali, currently president of the Somali National Movement, declared his opposition to secession during a press conference in the Ethiopian capital of Addis Ababa ( Reuters 30 Apr. 1994). He added that "the path followed by the Somali people in the north and south of the country to resolve the Somali crisis has not achieved the desired results" ( AP 29 Apr. 1994). The current president of Somaliland, Mohammed Egal, described Ahmed Ali as a traitor ( AFP 29 Apr. 1994); he had said that the people of the north did not want to [translation] "put their fate in the hands of a central power in Mogadishu" (Marchés tropicaux 28 Jan. 1994,
Suldaanka Posted March 7, 2018 It shows how Somalis are simpletons with very limited capacity to think. What counts is what he done while in office. What he done while he transitioned as a civilian, is his business. It doesn't take away a single thing from his leadership in those formative years. The same way it wouldn't take away anything from Dahir Rayaale's leadership if he were to completely make a U-Turn. Yes, it will be another chapter in a person' life and history but that doesn't mean all his former achievements are in the gutter. But again, Somalis are wired differently, the are only people on this earth that will add 1 + 1 and have result greater than 2.
Suldaanka Posted March 7, 2018 2 hours ago, Ducale said: Why didn't you just say that.? No one can take anything away from Tuur but the tittle you gave him is one that doesn't quiet fit. That tittle is reserved for Cigaal. No doubt, Cigaal was a great leader of this country, a visionary leader that transformed the nascent administration into a fully fledged national government. But still, the first 2 years of Somaliland was the toughest anyone could possibly lead. If the first administration did not set the correct reconciliation environment and did not steer the ship in the most turbulent of times in which political and diplomatic pressure was at its most toughest, Egal could not have done what he done in his term. Credit where credit is due.
Tallaabo Posted March 7, 2018 Well in simple words Cabdi Raxmaan Tuur was like a mother who while suffering from postnatal depression wanted to strangle her infant daughter and Haaji Maxamad Ibraahim Cigaal was like a good aunt who came to the rescue of the baby, adopted her and brought her up. Both are loved and respected.

Mooge Posted March 7, 2018 Tuur was a good guy. he made a mistake and realized his mistake. niyoow we are all human beings and he tried hard to correct his mistake and told Mogadishu warlords that he misled mad people in Somaliland into believing nonsense and needed the help to reverse his mistake, but the warlord in mogadishu was more interested in killing own people than to listen to Tuur and bring the North under control. he didn't get the help he needed from caydiid. Allah u naxariisto niyoow.
Mooge Posted March 7, 2018 oodwayne, facts are facts niyoow. revisionists stuff never worked on here. what tuur did and what he wanted is all on the open. you can say you wrote secret letters for him all day, but what is known is known. tuur wanted united somalia. he didn't do anything out of anger or was a mad man. he was perfectly normal and if he could get things to work out they way he wanted, he would have died happy. but history wasn't kind to him and he passed away in london knowing it was all his doing that misled gullible masses and wished to reverse it back. he tried his best.
