The result of this democratisation of Puntland's politics will predictably produce their own version of jeegaan :D Somalis will never be pure democrats and dissociate clan politics from proper politics.

 Exactly!

They might as well let every sub-clan have their own party.

Its a toss up. They have this in Ethiopia, Canada, India..

For it to work every clan sub clan party should be based on local government. That way politicians cannot use blaming one clan different to theirs. The Oromo party was isolated in its region. What they decided to choose was blame everything on Tigray for their failures and corruption.

Local government even a district is the best method. Powers clearly defined and also money from center divided according to formulae they have agreed.

But no one formula works for everyone. Past history is also very importnat.

If the leaders of Somaliland copied the systems of accountability, transparency, and good governance from the first world countries of the west and Asia, today Somaliland would be very different. But Suldaanoow the problem is we not only incapable of finding our own solutions to our problems but we cannot even copy the existing solutions which have worked very well for other countries.

The criterion should always be does the said solution address current problems?

If unitary government made a situation worst as the case in Ethiopia and Somalia, there is no way to bring government of angels to continue unitary government. Society needs a break and try self distributed power government.

Next if the autonomous governments go too far and in different direction, putting at risk the common and also each other, then no matter how good these outonomous governments are , cannot solve the problem of going different direction. Only reducing their power and strengthening the unitary will solve.

Look at Great Britain

First ther were kingdoms fighting each other for unitary government

Then the English won and run unitary government for almost 300 years

Now they have come to autonomous governemnt and soon maybe back to kingdoms

The history of the Somali people and all peoples is also the same.

Past history is the most important factor whether we recognize it or not. Governments use past history, opposition uses past history one cannot escape.

Somaliland experiment maybe better since it has better balance between history and modernity, but the results are not to be seen yet until next generation where the old ones that created are gone and people who were born and raised with it are in power.
