Finally, OO shrugs with resignation.😀

wow

Is that how you understood or that is what you are wishing to see.

I just stated "the world is in flux maybe is change of empires" like the chinese replacing America like Turks Persians etc becoming powers regions or Israel achieving Nile to Euphrates etc.

As far as Ethiopia is concerned, you can rest assured that it will stay the way it is, since more people, more powers, more money..more of everything wants it that way.

If the unthinkable happens, the once who think will control will be first ones to go. You and I can wish the ordinary people to be safe, those inolved know what they are getting into.

Your celebration will have to wait.

Revisiting the Derg era between 1974 - 1977 will be useful to understand what is a head in the next three years.

I am glad, this time around we don't have the naïve Kacaan boys who saved the Derg from their internal bloodbaths.

So the argument for the status quo is the fear of unknown.

Che,

The irony is the guy who resigned, was their best hope in maintaining the status quo, while addressing some of the Oromo greivences.

Tigre Hawks were not happy with his late reconciliatory moves. The emboldened Oromo leaders also didn't appreciate his little favour.

He was pressured from both sides and being put between rock and a hard place. What he did is simply let the two camps own the boxing ring and do their laundry by themselves.

The word compromise will be badly needed to be added first time to the Ethiopian political dictionary.

That is very true. Compromise comes from knowing all the opetions. If we are one way people its very difficult and impossible t find compromise.

If somebody moves by figuring out all available options, then can chose depending the situation.

Almost all Ethiopians are talking in terms of Tigray or Oromo. All the other people are off the map. Its sad and funny.

They both forget that a small number Ethnic or group can throw a wrench and the whole thing can change.

Mengistu was uncknown quantity yet he did great damage killing kings, generals ministers like ordinary defenceless.

I agree with that. after the war of 1977, Mengistu mobilize people to save Ethiopia. It wa during the war the he consolidated his dictatorship. What became strange was both countries were in the communist camp.

Unlike you guys , I do not see Oromo shedding a lot blood this time around. They are achieving their goals through peaceful protest and striking in major cities which crippled the country.

This OO guy is always keep talking about insignificant things that has no bearing to the reality, This issue will not be decided by Agnew or any non significant people. Does anyone one of you Somalis ever met someone called  Agnew?, I never.

This issue is about Oromo rejecting Tigray power in Ethiopia. It is illegal power gained by the barrel of the gun and nothing else. How can people who are 5% of the population could dominate  the rest of 95% percent. No emergency powers will stop the revolution.

He has been in these pages for months yet, he never told us one single information about the events that are taking place. He never told us about the extraordinary meeting of the EPRDF which was debating for weeks about finding a leader that could save Ethiopia. Some said let us get rid of HMD now, while others said let us prepare for next election. He Keep repeating about Siyum doing that or how oromo will lose if it does not behave. The threat card TPLF has is to disband Ethiopia , and personally I like that idea.

The Oromo is achieving it's goals without huge blood or violence with guns. The most prominent intellectual magazine in America , The Atlantic, said there about the Oromo revolution:

"Ethiopia's Oromo population is celebrating a victory today that is probably unprecedented in African history. Without extensive violence or bloodshed, and while almost all of its leading voices languished in jail, a grassroots protest movement has managed to force one of the most powerful regimes in Africa to surrender to its demands"

"As an organized strike involving tens of thousands of Oromo youths drew closer to the capital city of Addis Ababa, Ethiopian authorities agreed to release a host of important political prisoners, including Bekele Gerba, a compelling activist whose release from prison the government has fiercely resisted. (Just the week before, Bekele had been sentenced to an additional half-year behind bars, for the crime of singing a protest song in front a judge.)

The main issue is  how to overcome differences of opinion between the so-called "moderate" and "hardliner" factions with the Tigrean People's Liberation Front (TPLF), which is the most powerful faction with the ruling party.

"The TPLF alarm is s alarm is well-founded; the only question is whether its belated concessions to the protests, after years of growing unrest, may be too little, too late. Anger at the perceived economic and political dominance of the small Tigrean ethnic faction is a moving force behind the protests, and the threat of a genocide or other targeted ethnic violence against Tigrean individuals appears to be escalating. Fearful Tigrean citizens have reportedly relocated in large numbers from the Amhara and Oromo regions of the country".

The issue is simply between the power holders (TPLF) who must give up and the Oromo who must be accomodated. The only truth you told all these months is that the Amhara were trying to use the Oromo to get the power, while the Oromo is well aware f that and want everything for themselves.

Tilamook and others told you that devolution of power and genuine power sharing with other federal satea will only work for Ethiopia. You are  trying to  give a boost  to the hired mercenary Illey by  making him a legitimate voice of Somais like Lemma Magrasa who is representing the interest of his people.

That is false. The Somalis who were arrested illegally are languishing in Ethiopian jails. The most prominent Somali prisoner is Bashie A. Makhtal who was kidnapped from Kenya. Canadian government had tried every available chanel to release him. His grandfather was the founder of Somali independent movement in Ethiopia. In 1991, he told Meles that his movement is older than his so called TPLF by three decades and does not want to be apart of Ethiopia. The Wayaane does not respond to peaceful negotiations or these Somalis could have been freed long time ago.

image.jpeg.c2bab6fc7b6f49ed2b690ced08df426f.jpeg

We need to rise up in Jijiga, Jinacsani, Awbare and Dire Dawa to force the TPLF to release Somalis rotting in jail.

You introduced to us like someone who is pointing to us who our enemies are. Your whole campaign was Oromo is eating your children.

The whole TPLF project was sustained by the so called war on terror. In 2005, Meles was in the ropes after he was challenged by opposition with huge protests. After the invasion of Somalia in 2006, Meles got hundred of millions from America which allowed to crush his opponents. The Islamic Courts of Somalia saved Meles.

The TPLf is making billions on the war against Al-shabaab. According to the Atlantic, "Ethiopia has also proved very willing to retaliate against diplomatic pressure by holding American security interests hostage: in September 2017, for example, when the House Subcommittee on African Affairs attempted to pass a resolution drawing attention to Ethiopia's human rights abuses, Ethiopia's then-ambassador to the United States, Girma Birru, visited the Subcommittee members and threatened to withhold counterterror cooperation in Somalia. Faced with this threat, the Subcommittee immediately abandoned the resolution. (The Subcommittee threatened yesterday to bring the resolution to the floor for a vote on February 28, unless the Ethiopian government gives UN investigatory teams access to the country"

As you can see, Ethiopia is making billions of dollars from the Pentagon since to 2006. Average yearly aid, mainly on intelligence, weapons and eavesdropping stations are $700 million a year. Sometimes it even reaches a billion dollar. Most of these money goes to the ruling party and their intelligence and economic interest.

Al-shabaab is the best cash cow for the TPLF and Ethiopia. The end of Al-shabaab means the Pentagon security aid would dry quickly. Within Somalia, especially in Hiiraan, Bay and Bakool, and Jubba, the Ethiopian forces usually make un announces deployments and unexpectedly abandoning positions and bases without the knowledge of the Somali government. Usually they abandon their position at down and as soon as they leave Al-shabaab fighters who have direct contact come in and take the weapons left behind for them by the Ethiopian army intelligence. That is why the Somali government is planning the removal these Amisom troops.

The status quo is unacceptable. I hope the next prime minister to be Oromo and from the Muslim community, because most of those seeking change are from the eastern region north of Dire dawa, Adama and southern Addis. The Oromo in the east like Jima, Walega or in the Sudan border are not that active.

galbeedi,

You may have not heard Tigray 30 years ago either.

The Amhara kilil leadership is being shaken up right now. Then you will hear and know what the Agew is. You should have heard about them. Kush people, but I don't blame you since they are not diaspora or internet people. An Amhara cannot make any move without considering the Agew.

We say Amhara since Minelik, but almost all minelik army was Oromo.

You must have some personal vendetta from past. You cannot be so uncompromisingly so dedicated to something which to say the least most Somalis outside Ethiopia question merits of what you are advocating.

If you are a Somali nationalist to join all Somalis in one country, this is costly way trying to do something that kind.

The easiest, most economical, humaine way is let the Somali be important in all these countries and have common market or even confederation like Ghele proposed and there you have it greatest Somali not greater Somalia.

More Amhara prisoners were released today.

Clearly, the Oromo and Amhara stooges of the Tigre see the writings on the wall and have opted to side with their respective communities and have openly stopped being the servile jailers for the Tigre authorities across the country.

The only remaining question begging for an answer is...why is it taking so long for all Somali political prisons to be released as well?

Yes, why SOMALI prisoners are not being released?

For our resident here , I think his worst fear is being realized as OROMO takes over, let the games begin.

Tillamook,

Whoever comes to power or is in power can predict how Somalis will behave. Things will only change if Somalis make demands or have leverage. I don't see Iley questioning Tigray masters or ONLF mounting any serious fight.

The military has essentially taken over the country under the façade of state of emergency. There are restrictions on free movement, assembly, speech or any thing that is deemed as tools for incitement. The question is how would this state of emergency be any different?

Somali leverage could start if Illey empowers the Somali assembly in Jijiga to make demands and conditions. In Amhara and Oromo Kilil the local residents do not fear anymore of their local leaders.

Illey needs to allow Somalis to debate and agree on contingency plan to deal with the next outcome. As things stand at the moment, who ever comes to power will keep Illey  or will appoint another enforcer to implement their agenda. It is definitely predictable.

My fear is half or a third of the Oromo have Amhara blood or thinking and might just follow the same strategy of the Ahmara. The battle will be among the Oromo . Some who speak the language are not even Oromo. One thing we all agree is that  the TPLF is the most disciplined organization  in the history of Ethiopia.

If we do not prepare , nothing will change.

Someone told me twenty or more years ago that when the TPLF reached the Somali area in 1991, they did not enter Jijiga and surrounding area for the fear of Somali independent movements. They just sat there for a while, because they knew the Somalis were the first group , beside Eritrea who wanted independence both from the Derg and king Haile Selassie. They were feared about the Somalis who went to war with the Derg.

Slowly but surely they talked to the Somalis showing them their better side and asking them to convene a new conference in Dire Dawa. At the same time they were organizing other conferences for the warring factions of the Somali Republic that collapsed. It was in Dire Dawa that Oday Mohamed Makhtal who was the oldest founder of the Somali Galbeed independent movement in late fifties told Meles, " Adeer adiga oo aan dhalan ayan halgankan bilownay, waa u so dagaalnay, idinkana waanu idin caawinay, adeer ha isku deyn in aad shirar noo qabatee dhulkayga iska bax cidankaagana la baxa oo deris wanaag ha inaga dhexeeyo".

Since Meles  had an agenda, he continued the conference and fragmented the Somalis  on tribal lines as usual and made a deal to a  man by the name of Cabdul Majiid and others. At the end , Meles knew that since the larger Republic of Somalia is in it's knees, these poor Somali Galbeed could not  wage any big war.In fact those negotiations dragged for two years, and by then the TPLF consolidated power throughout the country.

No wonder when the grandson of Oday Makhtal-- who was a Canadian citizen and became  a traded between Dubai and MOgadishu--  evacuated from Mogadishu in 2006, after the invasion of Ethiopia in Mogadishu, the Kenyans detained him and was transferred to Ethiopia. Since Meles knows the history of Reer Makhtal, he put him in deep prison where he rots for 12 years. Every effort was made by his family in Canada, and even the former Foreign minister of Canada John Baird went to Ethiopia to release him. Meles refused and the new puppet Daselyn also refused An innocent man was kept in jail because his last name is Makhtal. Is Illy asking his release? No. No one is. The ONLF must demand the release of prisoners before any negotiations including Qalbi Dhagx.

The only plan in Jijiga is how to save Illey . If the Tigray want to work with us then we must be given options just like they have planned their options. If Oromo led Ethiopia becomes danger to Somalis or others as some have predicted, then the Somalis must be given the option to opt out.

Galbeedi,

Somali leadership in general seem to have accepted subservient role. I don't see anyone in Jigjiga challenging that man. I don't see they can overcome their fears. The fearless nature of Somalis have evaporated in the last 40 years.
