Water & Soil Preservation project launched in Somaliland

HARGEISA–Ministry for Agricultural Development on Tuesday launched scheme for the conservation of water and soil and will be benefited by Lafta Boqor village.

German Investment and Development Bank (KFW) has funded the project which is about to run for five years. The project is for the protection of soil where erosion has occurred and the mission behind it is to conserve water and soil so that it retains minerals which has been eroded by running water.

The short term goal is to see that the place will be benefited for boosting local food production as being of the key priorities of the agriculture ministry as far as the national development plan is concerned. The Director General of the Agriculture ministry, Mr. Mohamed Elmi Adan leading a delegation consisting of Gebiley Mayor and the head of the agency which is implementing the project held face to face meeting with community leaders in Lafta Boqor village. The ministry officials have explained to local community leaders the significance of the project for conserving water and soil so that the farms should retain their fertility. The Director General has urged farming communities in Lafta Boqor to fully benefit from the project which will be carried out in the village. Local farming community said that that the new government restored hope and have seen strides taken in the right direction which aims to boost food production in Somaliland.
