Former Somalia Foreign Minister arrives in Hargeisa After Presidential Pardon

Somaliland’s new president, Hon. Musa Bihi Abdi has granted a presidential pardon to Somalia’s foreign minister, Mr. Mohamed Abdilahi Omar who served as the FM during the 2010-2012 government under ex-president Sheikh Sharif. Mr. Mohamed Abdilahi Omar hails from the well known family of Abdilahi Omar who are Somalilanders by birth. As confirmed by sources that the ex-FM has relinquished his federalism belief and that has paved the way to make a return to his homeland, Somaliland. The former Somalia’s FM arrived in Hargeisa yesterday after the incumbent president has accepted the request from Mr. Mohamed and was granted a pardon. Mr. Mohamed is not the first politicians who give up the federalism notion but there were previous politicians who were from Somaliland and were pardoned by former presidents. Mr. Mohamed has lived in the UK and has returned to Somaliland. He holds dual nationality of being British citizen. He is one of the sibling of well known Hon. Rage Omar and Ms. Ruqia Omar.
