ONLF officially surrenders

In an agreement signed today between ONLF representatives and Ethiopia Federal Gov't, the ONLF organisation will surrender and become part of the political framework of the Ethiopian Somali region.

 

@Miskiin-Macruuf-Aqiyaarwas asking where was Gen. Gabre, look no further.

Ethiopia Federal and Regional Delegation include:

Gen. Gabre

Somali Regional President Abdi Ilay

Ok, the agreement has not yet been officially signed but more or less it is a done deal.

They have sat down in the past and this has ibeen n the works. ONLF is financially and militarily  depleted.  The question  is what sort of deal are they getting and will it be honored, Woyanes don't  honor anything but 

 Woyanes have officially  made way too many enemies  in Itoobiya and they play nice  with Somalis now.

Weyannie has always been on side same with Somali. 100 years of fighting coming to an end.

 

Bravo Illey. You have led the Somali in Ethiopia with higher respect and better status. Here is a region that can be lesson for the republic. All regions and countries of Somalis contributed to this. I wish the late Meles Zenawi had seen this. He worked tirelessly for it. Djibouti, Somaliland, Puntland and now SFG and communities South and NFD have all joined this and contributed.

Surrender is wrong word. The talking has always gone on even in middle of fighting. It is great doing it now, since both Federal and ONLF folks that know each other long time and some cases were close friends 20 years ago, are all retiring and are not leaving next generation this mess among same people. The next generation can deal with its own problems.

We will all know coming days.

This has taken 10 years. Every stage and time part of ONLF comes out openly and declares that they will stop the fighting and do what they want to do peacefully.

Some leaders may decide not to come to the kilil. Maybe too much for them, it is to be expected. For those who find it hard to come home, wish them best. Somalia and regions, even Djibouti and Kenya have agreed to host and give citizenship as long as the person has denounced and will not make politics by gun. No war for this old noble objective, but now not helpful and a destruction.

Sure the TPLF without their grandmaster Meles Zenawi is more vulnerable in the face of resurgent Amhara and Oromo block. However, they still have a firm grip on the country both in terms of military and economy.  Both Amhara and Oromo would not pose a clear present danger - perhaps at most a present nuisance more than anything else.

 

TPLF have always sided with Somalis. I remember back in 1990s when I used to reside in Addis Abeba, a Somali had more rights and protection than an Oromo or Amhara in Addis Abeba.  And in the political sphere the alliance was always there. 

 

This Oromo vs Somali is a manufactured conflict which may have one of its goals to send a wrong signal that Somalis need to unite against an imaginary threat.  Which itself may have the knockon effect of persuading gullible ONLF leaders to think that this may be a chance. 

 

Anyway, the only thing that is changing right now is that the ONLF will lay down arms and assimilate into the regional Somali politics. I am not too sure how far they will get since Abdi Ilay seems to want to remain the de-facto blessed ruler there for the foreseeable future.

A big thanks also goes to Somaliland. When you want and support for peace of your neighbor, and you may not get the same, but at least you will not get enmity.

You may not like Illey, but what ever his ills or bad side, he never wishes ill on any Region, clan or Ethnic. He is also one of the few Somali politicians powerful ones who can speak to anyone.

The diaspora philosophers are asking what does this all mean?

Some you tube videos are digging TPLF and WSLF speeches and musings from almost 30 years ago.

It would be a big embarrassment for Cheesman.  I wish Biixi brought up the Qalbidhaqax issue in Djibouti just to score some open goals on that stuttering bisad cheeseman. I see an opportunity to slaughter Cheeseman in the kawaan.

There is only one nightmare in this case. That is people fighting for something that is not timely and not a priority. Both either making Somali Kilil an independent country or breaking from Ethiopia and joining it to Somalia.

People should not die, fight and self destruct for either at this time.

Qalbi-Dhagax issue is federal in Ethiopia and I don't think will be a problem for any of them Ethiopia or Somalia.
