Stop Police Terror

Salaams people,

I know police racism is nothing new. However, tecently they have started a silent attacke on Muslims in the most derogatory ways.

Last Friday, a brother came to the mosque to share with us his ordeal with the police.

He was beaten, insulted and arrested. Then released three days later without charge. He was also made to do the sujud and asked; 'where is your God now' and they also removed his Quraan from the desk and placed it on the floor.

I saw this brother and his injuries were real.

Sad thing is that he isn't the only person treated like this under the terrorist act. Click here for more case studies

Muslim charities have their funds frozen and all it takes to be arrested is for some1 to contact the police. Anyone one of us - is considered a potential terrorist as long as we practice Islaam. What is worse, the law supports this police terror.

The facts:

? 529 arrested under Terrorism Acts

? 81 have been charged under it

? Of the 500 people arrested in Britain- under the Terrorism Act since 9/11, few if any have been convicted

? Their only crime was that they-were practicising their religion

? 17 foreign nationals have been held under emergency powers granted in 2001

? Community groups describe this as "racial profiling", i.e. considering somebody suspicious because of their style of dress

? Many being arrested then released without charge is evidence of "fishing expeditions" by the Police. And what is the result? 450+ Muslims harassed, abused, loss of jobs, trauma and to date no apology or compensation

? This hatred and attack is not against individuals, it is against our Civil Liberties.

? Remember their words:

?Where is your God now!?? The time has come to...

Four Yemeni brothers who regularly raised funds outside my local mosque where held for a week without being charged. They were finally let go, with two of them facing deportation due to irregular papers. Local masjids got together and put this to the S Yorkshire Superintendant and David 'ignorant' Blunkett. They seem to have calmed down up here due to us making a noise about it. The more noise we make the more they will listen.

Gr8 post Heblaayo!

Truly sad reality of this so-called democratic states. What is worse than them is the actual terrorists living amongst us, claiming to be practicing our religion and are continuously giving us a bad name!

World wide it seems police brutality (especially against minority groups) has become an endemic.

Just recently, a Somali brother whom I know personally was a victim of this crime. On his way to uni minding his own business, he was approached and questioned by numerous police officers. He was taken to the local station, directed to a back room and interrogated for many hours, and all because they had found his friends drivers license on him (which mind you he was using to return a PA system we had hired for a Somali youth conference the previous week). In the end they decided to let him go, but since he knew the Sergeant in charge of that particular station, he demanded to see him. To make a long story short, for that, they beat him unconscious, made inflammatory remarks about Muslims and Islam, and then threw him out on the street where a passerby called the ambulance.

Personally, I was infuriated by the incident for it has happened to so many of the Somali youth here in Melbourne. I was hoping that the brother would follow it up, but he pointed out a sad fact to me that I had previously not contemplated. How on earth can we demand that these officers be brought to justice when the one whom we are complaining to is their brother. The judge, jury and defense are one in the same. We might achieve small milestones, but there all simply for the papers, we have to stop kidding ourselves and accept it, or leave to the Muslim lands.

You can't separate yourself unless you make a choice to. We are all facing this. STOP POINTING FINGERS.

If you are actually denying the existence of terrorists being bred all over the world...then you are just as ignorant as them. Unless of course you agree with them. And I am not talking specifically about the palestinian suice bombers..I'm talking about al-quida and such groups who claim to be the soldiers of god and yet claim the lives of innocent civilians. Yeah, those "fundamentalist" terrorist...and its a shame the rest of the muslim community isnt doing anything to stop them. I've said it and I guess it makes me like "them".

Besides, I am merely stating that these racial profiling is blasphemous...and that it is these so-called muslims with "keys to paradise" are to blame for them. They think they are doing us justice..but look at what they did to muslims abroad!

Firstly, I can't deny the existence of "terrorists" because every group of people has some bad elements. However, on the same token, I can't say I am personally 100% sure of the existance of an organization whose only purpose in life is to instill fear and disrupt social order. Just what I hear on the news and we know how reliable they are.

I'm not sure how you're suggesting we weed out this terrible evil. How about we go to the mosque and start watching everybody see who thay are what they do. tap some phones...wait that guy looks fishy someone call homeland security. You can't police your faith and the faith of those just like you. You shouldn't let suspicion take a hold of you like that. Maybe as I asked in the previous post, you have a clearer image of what going on and you know who the bad guys are. If you do, do something about it. If you don't keep your nose out of other peoples lives. Its hard enough trying to get by without having our own sisters suspecting us.

That info would be very helpful to the FBI.

Done! :D

Lion-Teaser jr has been reported to the FBI. According to the informer, he has been giving a 'comfort and moral support' to the enemies of the Bush and Co. The group - so-called Muslims who seem to have the keys to paradise - that Opinionated alluded to have been sighted in this very site. :D

lol@ yous lot.

I think Opinionated was referring to those guys that were responsible for NYC hijack, the Kenya and Indonesia bombing. I have to agree if it weren’t for them we wouldn't be in this predicament today. And why is it that a Bin Laden pop’s up every now-and-then? I find that strangely convenient for Bush’s war-on-terror – maybe I’m just para. Ilahay ha inoo sahalo.

Personally, I haven’t seen any Muslim that supports or is involved in any Terrorism. But if some the nomads do know off any than you need to have a word with them, tell the local Imaam or something!

and its a shame the rest of the Muslim community isn’t doing anything to stop them.

What are we to do? Most of the reputable scholars, Imams and leaders have addressed the issue in detail - they have condemned it and clarified the position of Muslims on the issue. What more can they do?

Rahiima,

Whilst, I understand your point - I think the situation is a little different in the UK as the citizens are not as ****** as the government. Many non-Muslim Brits oppose the Terrorist Act as it gives the police too much power - the result of which we can now see. So this isn’t strictly a Muslim versus non-Muslim battle.

Besides, walaalo. Since we are living in these countries as law-abiding citizens we can’t just sit back and let them mess with us.

Underdog,

Its hard enough trying to get by without having our own sisters suspecting us.

Do you have to turn this into a sisters V brothers issue? I don’t that is a fair comment. Besides, there’s too much faarax v xaliimo stuff going on in this forum already.

Ameenah,

Sorry it came out that way but it wasn't what I was implying. The point I was trying to make was that our beliefs might make us targets these days, but they've always kept us united and on the right track. I think the strategy of "divide and conquer" applies when they make us start suspecting the very brothers and sister who would have your back in hard times. The best thing we can all do is THINK. I'll call a spade a spade when I SEE the spade not when I'm TOLD it's there by people who deceive for a living.

Now why do you have to go and put words in my mouth? Yes, I do believe we have some bad seeds in our communities and they need to be treated not encouraged. Whether you believe that or not is up to you. As for having your "own" sisters suspecting you, why? do you have something to feel guilty about....stop undermining my posts all over SOL, brother.

Bashi, you are just too funny! redface.gif really!!

Tell you what Ameenah, this country is going to hell in a hand-basket. Demonising Asylum seekers, criminalising Muslims, threatening to take away the kids of those who don't want to be deported, ID cards, all the new legislation aimed at taking away the very democratic rights and choices that everyone was sooo proud of...

What hypocrisy! Makes you wonder what next?

^^sister, they are just showing us the door,,,,, and the quicker we realise that the better,,,,,,

there is a very fine line between being an ordinary law abiding muslim and going to prison, that line can be crossed by anyone un-intentionaly, raising money for palestine, chechya, Afgan, etc can and has been percieved as terrorist activity, thats just ridiculous.

Big brother is watching us...now government intrusion into our lives has been justified. Targeting and profiling certain nationalities are given the green light under the “Patriotic Act” to prevent foreign terrorist to carry out sinister operations against America. Fair I say. Yet the only known terrorist equipped with WMD who attempted to carry out sinister plots against America were white, Christian, ultra supremacy groups in Texas! I have heard it on the TV - CSPAN to be specific. Two guys are in prison. No one is profiling them! I smell fish in this potatoes soup they cooking for us. I’m a Muslin and Black. I know my rights and I now the pitfalls. I’m a God-fearing, law abiding citizen and yet I’m scared as a hell from the Big brother for they know no bounds. This is strange world and it is hard to get by or make sense out of some events. Abide the law, be vigilant, do not engage any shady business and above all know your rights...and hopefully you will be fine.

Opinionated,

Don’t get me started plz! You got thin skin and you are excessively paranoid. You don’t hesitate (and rightly so) to share your take on matters of larger concern in this Somali forum. Yet, when others with opposing views put their two cents or those who have tendency to call things what they really are(how they come off on screen) question u, they do so because they are either following you or targeting you or they are Somalis - that deformed people u know! who make a living to bother u. Talk about paranoia! Opinions vary and we really really do have different world outlook...it is inevitable to have opposing views. Don't get mad.
