Addis Ababa, Jan 17 –The modern electrified railway that links Ethiopia with the port of neighboring Djibouti began transporting passengers, official sources announced today, a few days after the inauguration of this means of transport.
Built in collaboration with China at a cost of 4 billion dollars contributed by the Import and Export Bank of the Asian country, the railroad provides Ethiopia with access to the sea, lost after the independence of Eritrea, with whose government it has stormy relations. The railroad is the first to be built using equipment and technical standards from China outside that Asian country.
