Somaliland’s Agriculture Ministry constitutes a team to visit Caterpillar affected crops in Awdal & Gebiley regions

HARGEISA–Ministry of Agriculture of Somaliland dispatched experts to farming regions in the country to investigate the reported caterpillar outbreak. This was disclosed by the minister for agriculture, Hon. Ahmed Mumin Seed who sent the teams to Awdal and Gebiley regions today. Their mission is to conduct awareness raising programs on ways and means to launch preventive measures against crop destroying caterpillar which has been reported in certain farming areas in Somaliland. The expert team is led by departmental director, Mr. Mohamed Said and is reported to take up to three days. The teams will assess and will find facts on the ground as they will see and talk to the farming communities. They will also see with their naked eyes on the impact of the outbreak of caterpillar in those areas. Their aim is also to prevent the insects to spread to farmers in the country as far as the situation is concerned. The minister in conjunction with the director general have been alerted of the eruption of the insect and have reached a swift decision to send the experts for fact finding mission.
