Djibouti, Somaliland Leaders hold talks, agree to boost bilateral ties

DJIBOUTI–Somaliland’s President Musa Bihi Abdi , accompanied by a senior delegation, has arrived in Djibouti on Saturday on days official working visit to Djibouti. Djibouti President, Hon. Ismail Omar and Somaliland counterpart, Musa Bihi Abdi held first bilateral meeting at the presidential palace in Djibouti on Sunday. The two leaders held talks that took hours and reached a common understanding on ways to strengthen bilateral ties between their respective nations. Somaliland’s FM, Dr. Sa’ad Ali Shire spoke to the media outlets to brief on the discussions between the two leaders. Dr. Sa’ad said that Having President Bihi sworn to office that he chose to visit Djibouti as his first foreign trip and further asserted that he came to Djibouti after having been officially invited to the country by Ismail Omar Gueleh.

The FM has expressed deep thanks to the President of Djibouti, ministers and the populace for the warm reception. Mr. Sa’ad has stated that issues of mutual interest between the two countries have been reviewed as far as the talks between the two leaders are concerned. The FM has disclosed that both leaders saw eye to eye on boosting the bilateral ties between the two countries on the areas of development, security and the peace and stability in the region and most of all the unity in the region.

Somalilad’s FM hoped that the talks between the two leaders would usher a new beginning for both countries and this will pave the way for enhancing the relationship between the two nations. On his part, Djibouti’s FM, Hon. Mohame Yusuf said that SL president, Musa Bihi decided to visit Djibouti as his first foreign trip and that shows a good example of the brotherly ties between Djibouti and Somaliland. He announced that the talks focused on boosting trade ties on Sea and land.  He stressed that both nations have understood on enhancing the cooperation against the cambat of terrorism and piracy in the region.

A joint technical commission will be formed to discuss ways to further implement the agreements so far reached by the two leaders. Djibouti congratulate Somaliland authority and its people of holding free and fair polls. The FM, Mohamed Yusuf urged Somaliland people to observe peace and stability as there is hostility in the region. Djibouti President, Ismail Omar held lunch banquet in honor of the visiting of Somaliland President, Musa Bihi Abdi and his delegate to Djibouti.
