Holac Posted January 4, 2018 If true, the foreign minister portfolio is moved from Guriceel clan (CCshakur's family) to Garowe subclan (Faroole's family). The FM position was traditionally designated for Northern Clans as part of unspoken power distribution among Somali clan. Farmaajo is doing away with the traditional power balance even though the position he holds today is based on that very foundation.
maakhiri1 Posted January 4, 2018 seriously, Yusuf Garaad was extremely not qualified for this position, Very arrogant, with zero diplomatic experience. It was a bad move from the beginning, yet he is educated, and possibly could lead other Ministries.
Mooge Posted January 4, 2018 Somalia PM sacks three ministers as country battles insurgency MOGADISHU (Reuters) - Somalian Prime Minister Hassan Ali Khaire has sacked his ministers for foreign affairs, the interior and commerce, replacing them with newcomers, the government said on Thursday, as it battles an Islamist insurgency. Somalia's newly appointed Prime Minister Hassan Ali Khaire addresses the Parliament seating where he was confirmed in Somalia's capital Mogadishu March 1, 2017. Khaire, a former oil and gas executive, was appointed to the post by President Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed last February. His government has been criticized for failing to stem attacks by al Shabaab militants. Foreign affairs minister Yusuf Garaad Omar, interior minister Abdi Farah Said Juha and the commerce and labor minister Khadra Ahmed Duale had been relieved of their duties, the information ministry said in a statement. They were replaced with Ahmed Ise Awad, Mohamed Abdi Sabriye and Mohamed Abdi Hayir, in the foreign affairs, interior and commerce posts respectively. There had been a “a dire need” to appoint new ministers to those posts, the statement said, adding the new cabinet members would help the government tackle its heavy workload. Last year, the defense minister and the head of military were sacked and replaced. The head of national security and the police commander were sacked after the country’s deadliest truck bomb attack killed 512 people in October. Both posts have yet to be filled. With the help of African troops, Somalia’s government has been battling the al Shabaab insurgents to try to restore peace in the country following decades of conflict. galbeedi Posted January 5, 2018 The shuffle is necessitated by the Mogadishu issues. Farmaajo needs someone from the H/G community to help him quell the grievances created by the raid of Cabdi Qaybdiid. Despite his connection , Yusuf Garaad is busy with the international issues. I heard the new interior minister to be a local and connected businessman who might concentrate his efforts both in Mogadishu and central regions. I think Yusuf Garaad has a done a lot in short eight months. Among his biggest achievements are : The release of hundred of Somalis from Jails in Ethiopia, India and seychelles; He enmanced the Turkey alliance with the president and treaded carefully on the issues of the gulf , Ethiopia, and Kenya. If Yusuf Garaad , who spend decades in the international media, foreign capitals and the region is not qualified to be a diplomat , I don't know who else could fill that job. Besides, the old diplomatic service of Somalia are old and retired . WE need the young generation to take the center stage. In all ,This move by Khayre is welcome. The upside in this shuffle are two. First, the men who held some of the most important portafolio in the country, namely the interior ministry responsible for internal order, and the chief foreign diplomat should have been allowed to exit gracefully , and at least 48 hours of notice should have been given before they were replaced. Prime minister Khayre must remember that these are not his office employees. Second, I have noticed an ugly replacement of the same tribe to the one fired. Many of us became familiar in Somaliland where cousins rotate or replace after one if fired. Interior minister Cabdi F. Juxa is from Puntland, and especially from Garoowe. He is replaced by another guy from Garoowe which means that ministry is belonged by Faroole clan. He has the choice of selecting anyone from Puntland , yet that is how it is played. Finally, Both Garaad and Juxa had written a very respectful statement and wished everyone a good luck
maakhiri1 Posted January 5, 2018 Galbeedi, have you forgotten the infamous letter to US? regarding Iran? The guy had no understanding of diplomacy, this role at least should have been coached long time , as diplomat, Ambassador, etc, of course I remember he was very brief the Ambassador to UN. Did you remember how he talked to the poor desperate guy who was being deported from Norway, Yusuf saying, that all his papers were bought from BAKARAHA Good riddance
