Somaliland: The Houthi Missile Threat Should not be Taken Lightly- Ex-Minster Omar Yare

HARGEISA—Steps taken so far by the new president Musa Behi Abdi are very encouraging for Somaliland.

This was stated by Former minister Omar Sheikh Mohamed Farah ‘Omar Yare’ during an interview with Geeska Afrika in which he also touched on other issues like administration cooperation with Opposition parties and the threats emanating from the Houthis a rebel outfit in Yemen.

On the composition of the council of Ministers formed by president Musa Behi Abdi , the politician said that its leanness is a pointer to better things to come.
“With such a lean administration hopes are high that a myriad of difficulties engulfing citizens especially inflation shall be handled properly” said Omar Yare adding that in comparison with past administrations this one ranks Supreme.

Omar Yare served in the government of Former President Ahmed Mahmud Silanyo as minister of aviation, livestock development as well social services.

Queried on his take as per the recent meeting between president Behi and Wadani party leader Abdirahman Irro who were main contenders for the presidency during the November elections, the legislator opinionated that once the electioneering process is over it is incumbent for winners and losers to join hands for the sake of the nation.

Said he “The cooperation were are witnessing between President Behi and his arch office opponent is very encouraging and hopefully it shall go full term”

On the threat of missile attacks directed to Somaliland by the Houthis of Yemen, the former minister said, “this is a serious issue that must not be taken lightly” stressing on the fact that the Houthis have the capacity to fulfill a missile attack on the country.

The Houthis who are accused of firing missions at Riyadh the Saudi Arabia capital on two occasions, are reported to have issued the threat more specifically at the Somaliland coastal town of Berbera where this country’s main port is situated as well as proposed UAE military base is to be established.

The Iran supported rebels currently in control of a large swath of Yemen including the capital Sanaa are angered by not only the planned presence of UAE forces in Somaliland but by this country’s support to Saudi Arabia which is leading a coalition fighting against it.
