Houthis and their Iran-backers have no support in Somalia. The Iran embassy in Xamar have been closed down. The Saudi coalition through Emirates have tried to recruit Somali mercenaries. Emirates have been training Somali forces. Events in Mogadishu are hardly distracted by outside events. I can't see how a video by Houthis will register anything in Mogadishu.

Farmajao and Kehyr will have a better chance with Alshabab if they want to distract people. Better yet they launch some sort of military campaign. All it takes to send militias to Lower Shabelle.Better yet,  he could pick a fight with regional leaders.  There is so many options for him to distract people. A video by Houthis threatening is the least appealing option.

In Somaliland,  during the Berbera base debate they openly said the way to be part of the  Arab coalition . They thought it will bring Somaliland to world stage. THis is part of that campaign. 

 

Also, as you said the Houthis unlike Al-shabaab, they do not hide their face when they make public statements.

Somaliland doesn't even have a navy.  It is easy to take a couple of speed boats armed with RPG and destroy Berbera port/the base in a night operation. The Houthis don't need Scud missiles for this.

The fact the Houthis are going out of their way to display the Somaliland flag in the video makes your theory the most plausible here. They could have sent a warning to soomaal people and recorded the video without any flag advertisement. The only beneficiary of such video is Somaliland. As Barwaaqo said, there are no other videos linked officially to the account and it can't be found anywhere else. Let us just say it was cleverly manufactured in Hargeisa.

Firstly I am doubting the authenticity of these threats. But with regards to the UAE, I am guessing that it is their obligation to provide safety not only for their military installation but also other major cities.

Is it big FAIL? Some things are created for moments life span and ones the wind blows, who cares, it will be forgotten. I think some Arab might have fallen for it and gifted millions already. Wouldn't that be geat success?
