Video: Yemeni Houthis Send Strong Warning to Somaliland

HARGEISA– The Houthi Rebels warned Somaliland authority against its intention of proving military base to the UAE. They have told that if Somaliland goes ahead with its plan to allow the UAE and Saudi Arabia to use Berbera port as military base to carry out bombardments to houthi rebels. The rebels have said that if they do so then you have made the wrong decision. The UAE took the administration of Berbera port and Somaliland authority granted the UAE a military base in Berbera. Berbera is located on the Gulf of Aden, 260 kilometers (162 miles) south of Yemen, where UAE troops in a Saudi Arabia-led coalition are battling Houthi rebels.

Its too bad that Somaliland does not have the Djibouti Option, which is give base to anyone who is who and it becomes in every ones interest to keep you relatively safe. You even get in a position to chose among the small time players.

You can even tell the "big" Saudis not to conduct military operations from your land, and they have no option, but to accept it.

 

The remaining options for Somaliland is Turkey, UK, Russia, India, Japan. Otherwise Somaliland will be like Eritrea with only one "bad" customer and no options to even ask questions, let alone to influence them to respect your connection to the people in Yemen.

This could make Somaliland demand more money from UAE for defense, or get out of the Berbera deal and run with money they already took. Those are the two good options. The other option is for Somaliland to stick with the original deal and get subjected to daily rocket attacks devastating its coastal regions.

The worry is not what the Yemeni will do to Somaliland, but what Qatar and Turkey can do to Somaliland. I am sure the Egyptians are all glee for they were refused a base and also any activities against Ethiopia from Somaliland.

 

Regarding Yemen, its only the historical side and that I hope the Yemeni understand the situation and Somaliland can resist sending its soldiers like Eritrea into the fake alliance of Saudi-UAE command.

Houthis are full of garbage. They will be wasting their expensive projectiles on a desert if they targetted Somaliland. They are better off locking their targets on Riyadh and other places where it would make an impact.

It will be  a wake up call for the region if they can pull off this threat. Djibouti and its many international military bases will analysing this threat seriously. 

 

UAE need to guarantee safety of the Somaliland cities. It is their job to provide anti missile defence system.

UAE military may bring missile batteries to Berbera or Hargeisa and operate them, but I don't believe the American-made anti-missile defence system will be trusted in the hands of maryooleey .
