Somali celebrates 74th police anniversary

Ceremonies to mark the 74th anniversary of the Somali’s law enforcement agencies have taken place in all regions of the Horn of Africa nation.

A well-executed ceremony to celebrate the establishment of the police was held at General Kaahiye Academy in Mogadishu, the site of a deadly suicide attack that claimed the lives of 17 policemen less than a week ago.

Somali Police have identified the suicide bomber who blew up in General Kahiye Police Academy in Mogadishu but say that the name will not be released to the public.

Security has been beefed up around the capital with authorities blocking all roads leading to the academy

Prime minister Hassan Ali Khaire who attended the ceremony has inspected a guard of honour mounted by police forces who lined up in readiness to commemorate the day.

UN envoy to Somalia, Michael Keating, Ministers, officials, MPs and leaders of civil society participated the event.

President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo sent congratulatory message anniversary the police.

Somali National Police Force is the main civil law enforcement agency of Somalia. Throughout Somalia’s bloody civil war, the police force has been inactive. It was revived just before the establishment of Somali Transitional government in 2004.

Somalia police day was founded on 20th December 1943.
