Tallaabo Posted December 19, 2017 https://www.voanews.com/a/islam-thrives-former-us-church/4164900.html Surah Al-Hajj ayah 22: (They are) those who have been expelled from their homes in defiance of right,- (for no cause) except that they say, "our Lord is Allah". Did not Allah check one set of people by means of another, there would surely have been pulled down monasteries, churches, synagogues, and mosques, in which the name of Allah is commemorated in abundant measure. Allah will certainly aid those who aid his (cause);- for verily Allah is full of Strength, Exalted in Might, (able to enforce His Will). While in Somaliland people get animated by the thought of re-opening a Catholic church in Hargeisa, in the US city of Syracuse, the Catholic Christians seem to be more true to the spirit of the Quran than the so-called Muslims in Somaliland. When the Christian officials faced a choice- to sell their disused church to investors who wanted to turn it into a bar or sell it to a group of Muslims who wanted it to be their mosque for a fraction of the price others were offering, the Christian officials decided to keep the house of God a place where God is worshipped and gave it to the Muslims losing a lot of money as a result. Now that is what I call "the love of God". While for most Somalis "God" is just a notion inherited from their parents, the people we call "gaalo" are spending precious resources so that the name of God is remembered. So next time you arrogantly call a God-fearing Christian- "gaal" take a good look at yourself and ask- what have I ever done for God?
Che -Guevara Posted December 19, 2017 I remember when they were building Maakhir University Campus. They erected a mosque in the middle of the campus. I wondered why? It seemed like a waste of money and surely, there are a lot of other mosques in town. We care about symbolism.

maakhiri1 Posted January 30, 2018 very good Tallaabo, well said. Many of the extremist and influence of Wahabism have greatly distorted Islam. Suffi Islam that used be practised in Somalia and now Sudan is very tolerant.
Old_Observer Posted March 26, 2018 Ethiopia has a monastery in Jerusalem that was gifted by Sultan Salahadin, because the Abyssinians did not go for the crusades. Its called Monastery of Sultan, Debri Sultan (Tigray) Dier Sultan (Turkish). When the Ottomans were in charge of Jerusalem they had guards assigned and kept it safe with the Ethiopian monks that were there contineously through the about 400 years. They are not worried about few christen praying in that church but people with money coming to their city and using their wealthy to convert locals to a new religion as it happens many places in Africa and Asia. In developed world you do not have that issue. Wealthy is not issue people covert to different religion. One of reason Islam spread around the world, specially Assia was the good deeds and behavior by the muslims.

Awalba maxay haysteen markii hore? There is no compulsion in religion. ... لاَ إِكْرَاهَ فِي الدِّينِ (There is no compulsion in religion), meaning, "Do not force anyone to become Muslim, for Islam is plain and clear, and its proofs and evidence are plain and clear. Therefore, there is no need to force anyone to embrace Islam.
