Somaliland Army Chief Assures Security Ahead of Presidential elections

Amid tension between Somaliland & Puntland over border standoff.

Somaliland loves to live in peace and harmony with its neighbor despite Puntland declared to wage war with us said the defense chief of Somaliland. Brigadier General Nuh Ismail Tani has said that both Somaliland & Puntland have a common enemy. He cited that the conflict between the two will be an advantage to their foe.

Somaliland’s chief of defense announced that the country armed forces in the border with Puntland took all necessary measures to maintain security. He further cited that there is no security threat either from Puntland forces and other foes ahead of Monday presidential election in the country. He ruled out the possibility of anyone violating its border and hoped that Puntland will not do that. He adamantly said that SL is determined to have brotherly relations with Puntland which has trade ties with Somaliland.

Somaliland Police Commissioner, Brigadier General, Abdilahi Fadal Iman in press briefing assured citizens that the country is safe and secure on the eve of presidential elections. The Police commissioner called on Somalilanders to extend a helping hand to security forces during election. He warned the youth to refrain from any acts of violence during election day and further said that those who incite unrest will be arrested and brought before justice. Puntland parliament vowed to disrupt presidenttial elections not toke place in disputed regions of Sanaag, Sool and Ayn. Somaliland, Puntland dispute over the ownership of Sool, Sanaag and Ayn. The two forces clashed on numerous occasions that claimed the loss of lives and property. Somaliland Army personnel have been mobilized  to beef up security ahead of presidential polls. Security forces have been deployed to 1642 polling stations across the country.
