Deeq A. Posted November 7, 2017 The African Union says it has begun its withdrawal from Somalia and will cut 1,000 troops by the end of this year as security responsibilities start to shift to the local military. The continental body said Tuesday that the move comes at a critical time, less than a month after the country’s worst attack killed more than 350 people. The Somalia-based al-Shabab extremist group has been blamed. The AU says its troop movements shouldn’t cause alarm, but the withdrawal has begun earlier than expected. Plans had said the first troops would leave in 2018. The 22,000-strong African Union force in Somalia is expected to fully withdraw by the end of 2020. The United States military and others have expressed concern that Somalia’s security forces will not be ready by then. Source: ABC News
galbeedi Posted November 8, 2017 We need someone to explain to us what is going on. Presient Farmaajo last week visited Uganda and asked more troops, almost 5000 more, and now Amisom is withering a 1000 men. They may have been told to put up and lift their weight or leave. 22,000 men with the most modern equipment and they could not defeat a rag tag Al-shabaab army?. Give me a break. gooni Posted November 8, 2017 Amisom uma iimaan inay dalka xorayso, dagaal muuqdana kama jiro soomaaliya. Somaalidu badankeedu waxay sugayeen in amisom dalka u xorayso maadaama cidamadeedu aad u badan yihiin, taa macnaheedu waxay la mid tahay adigoo biyo socda gacmaha u hoorsaday oo haddana dalbaday in laguu dhaqo ama mayro. dagaalkan wuxuu kasoo toosaa guryaha aan seexano dad ama koox ehel salaad ah oo sujuudoodu madoobaatay oo alle magaciisa ku dhawaaqaya yaa ku tartamaya xasuuqa shacab aan waxba galabsan, suurta galna ma'ahan nin arkay ilmo hooyadood hilibkeeda kartoon ku guraya inuu sheegto diin iyo badbaadada cibaadka alle. Waliba kuweenu xag jirkaa waxba uma kala saarna lama hayo meel ay intaas oo shacab ah oo ay isku caqiido yihiin ku xasuuqeen bariga fog ilaa bariga dhexe ama kala sooc lahayn. Amisom haddii 100 kaliya lagasoo reebo iyo haddii 30kun lagusoo daro waxba bedeli mayso. Meeshan waxaa ka buuxa masas midabo badan maalintii galinka hore waa "cad" yihiin habeenkii waa madow, galinka dambe waa cagaar, saxaafaddu caano u shubto ayagoo ku sheegaya awliyo loo soo doortay danaha beeshooda ama ganacsato maal geliya meeshi dantooda dhaqaale iyo amni, ku jirto dawlad la'aantana canshuur dhaaf u arka, intii ay canshuur bixin lahaayeen shacabku ka faa iido labada dhinacba hadiyadooda xafiiska ugu gee (ma ewelaa basiin ii baaqahaayay) Mucaarad la'aan dawlad qiimo ma leh balse waa inuu wax dhisaa dhiliishiisana laga faa'iidaa marxaladda adagna wadanka la samata bixiyaa balse hadday kala garan waayaan waxay xaq u leeyihiin iyo waxa ayaga xaq loogu leeyahay waa dhibaato wayn. Libaax-Sankataabte Posted November 8, 2017 This is a very interesting development. It is the beginning of the end for AMISOM in Somalia. It is a good thing.
Suldaanka Posted November 8, 2017 LST, This is just symbolic. AMISOM have been at the receiving end of lots of criticism lately, they had to do something. And this trickle draw down strategy is a way for them to send a message to Farmaajo that he is needs to step up, at the same time to continue what they do now without substantially reducing their numbers.
