Che -Guevara Posted March 22, 2016 While security of Pland seems to be in good hands, in the bigger picture, there are simply no winners.
galbeedi Posted March 22, 2016 The leaders of this boys are evil and cruel. Taking boys from far away as Bay and using to destabilize Puntland. It is sad. On the other hand, Watching these and other clips , I noticed one thing. The so called Al-Shabaab does not have deep ideological foundation to stand or even succeed in the future. They prey among the most venerable youth and boys to use as human shield of destruction. Another important factor is, in south central Somalia Al-Shabaab is protected and tolerated. What happened in Puntland is a great example of the population rejecting and refusing to harbour killers. The people of the south must follow this example. They do not have ideology or even faith driven members. While the leaders might have some deep seated fanaticism, the larger members are just unemployed and idle youth from country side. What you need is after the liberation of villages and towns, these boys must be rehabilitated. I think this so called Al-Shabaab has found a vacuum to fill. In the absence of national government without a national strategy and outlook, even sinister group can create their own gang. Truly , if we could find someone capable, there might be a hope that this could be reversed. The Somali state in early seventies without huge money or NGO help brought orphans all over the country and cared for them,. Certainly This NGO Government could do the same with the help their NGO patrons. Calla kuli xaal raja badan Ayaan ka arkay waraysiyada. Illyria Posted March 23, 2016 Galbeedi, Do not fall prey to the notion Al-shabaab is ideologically shallow. they are not and if anything, theirs is the antithesis of that, if any. Like other groups of similar ideologies before it, its the indoctrination of the fearless fowl which is attractive, and thereby bearing plum prunes. This video is heartbreaking, if very telling. And according to the Attorney General, kids will be rehabilitated and repatriated. http://puntlandone.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/Xeer-Ilaaliyaha-G-ee-PL-.mp3 This could be a turning point for the battle against Al-shabaab in the deep south, and a lesson for the IC. a) An only native national Somali army could stabilise, disarm, and secure the country. b) An only genuine grassroots leadership, and not the astroturf refuse holed up in Villa Xamar now, could bring about political stability. Neither exists in Somalia and its financiers are out of step, and by extension, there is no shining star on the horizon for either in the immediate. And let us not forget the dead are sons of Somalia.
Che -Guevara Posted March 23, 2016 One good thing, if there's any, it showed the inner workings of Al-Shabab. They are vulnerable and I suspect, have always been. This episode also showed unity between the public and security apparatus is the key.
