Mooge Posted September 2, 2014 More than 200 Mozambican construction workers have gone on strike in protest at alleged beatings by their Chinese employers and poor working conditions, some of the strikers said. The 230 workers, who are employed by a Chinese state-owned construction company to build a three-kilometre bridge and a 74-kilometre ring road in the Mozambican capital Maputo, have been on strike since Saturday. They also claim that an end of year bonus has not been paid. "These Chinese have no respect for the people. They insult us, beat and send us away when they want and for no reason," Antonio Mavila, a worker who claims to have suffered repeated assault, said on Wednesday. "We cannot continue to work without being paid and without being respected as human beings," another worker John Matusse told AFP news agency. Their employer, the China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC), did not respond to requests for comment. http://www.aljazeera.com/news/africa/2014/01/mozambicans-claim-abuse-chinese-employers-20141944057360930.html

DoctorKenney Posted September 2, 2014 These were the same problems that existed in China in the 1980's when Western Corporations hired Chinese workers to work low-wage, unpleasant jobs. Many Chinamen died on the jobs and it was a serious problem at the time. And now China is doing the same thing in Africa in the 2010's. One should hope that Africa accumulates enough capital that one day, they won't need Chinese intervention anymore, and they would be self-reliant....inshaAllah. China went through many of the same growing-pains in the 1980's. India went through the same phase in the 1990's. Africa--unfortunately--has to go through this painful phase as well.
