At least six members of Somalia’s federal parliament who descend from the regional state of Puntland have today returned to their home region due to a dispute between the federal government and Puntland.

 

The withdrawal of the six legislators from the capital Mogadishu comes several days after the region’s president Abdiweli Mohamed Ali Gaas gave them an ultimatum of 15 days to return to the Puntland region.

 

The call followed after Somali government announced the formation of central Somali state which consists of two regions: Mudug and Galgaduud, but this was boycotted by the Puntland state which partially controls Mudug region.

 

Hassan Abshir Farah who was leading the delegation of lawmakers told reporters at the airport upon arrival that they accepted the call by the Puntland leader and we are glad to be back home safely.

 

Puntland president Abdiweli Gaas said he was very happy with the return of the six lawmakers to the region.

 

“I kindly thank you for embracing my call to return to your home region” President Abdiweli Gaas told the lawmakers during meeting at his compound in the town of Garowe.

 

There are other members of the parliament and government ministers who are also hailed from Puntland and it is not yet clear whether they will accept President Gas's ultimatum.

^You still don't get it do you? There is no dictation in Somalia anymore. Puntland can't dictate to the FG and the FG can't dictate to Puntland. If we want a functioning country - there has to be dialogue, consultation, joint decision making and respect. Puntland is the only real entity in the country - all the rest are just starting out or like the FG in precarious control of the capital and surroundings. Given this - there is no need to antagonize PL unless you have the agenda to further fragment this country.

There is no force or dictation in Somalia niyoow. qoslaye has shamed himself by pulling a clannish stint to help his HAG clansmen. you and I know whatever he did or sign means nothing on the ground and will not change an ounce in the practical term in Somalia. you live in la-la-land niyoow. i thought you knew how things work in somalia. loool.

 

i am very happy our leaders came home to consult and give their opinion to the president. we are a democracy and our decision-making is driven by broad consensus niyoow. it is in our genes.

malistar, niyoow puntland objection is that HAG is using 1.5 state to form a federal state and they want to leave Hiiraan, shabelaha dhexe as another federal state and then mogadishu as a federal state of its own. that is not going to happen. but some people are saying HAG intention is to claim all mudug districts but i don't think they are really that dumb because we all know that is just not remotely possible. the only thing they can try is to confuse the name Mudug. either way, the name mudug should not have been used in the signing document. it should have been South Mudug.

 

Puntland will not allow HAG to form three federal states niyoow. it not going to happen.

 

puntland would have accepted this framework:

 

South Mudug

Galgaduud

Northerern Hiiraan (matabaan is district part of hiran but population is Xasan Dahir Aweys family).

 

Southern Hiiraan

Shabelaha Dhexe

Banadair
