Somaliland starts pension allowance

Recommended Posts

Things like welfare, social assistance, and other Government policies are only possible when the State has the ability to collect substantial amounts of revenue.

And THAT would only be possible if Somaliland actually has a strong tax base, which they don't. The country doesn't have a strong, stable middle class which can pay the taxes.

So pensions should be out of the question. If a Somalilander Man chops firewood all day, would he be entitled to a pension? What about if he was a mechanic, or a fisherman? Would he be entitled to a pension? And if not, why not?

Why should a teacher get a pension but not any of these other professions?

It's ridiculous. It'll only bankrupt the Somaliland State. It's not like Somaliland is flush with cash. They're not exactly "rich", so why would they waste their scarce resources on giving money to retired teachers?

Look at what happened to Detroit. The city government signed contracts, giving generous pension funds to retired schoolteachers, firefighters, cops, and city bureaucrats. It reached a point where over 60% of ALL the money the city collected, was used just on these pension funds. The city couldn't afford it, so they raised taxes. Which forced more businesses and people to leave Detroit. This bankrupted Detroit even more, and it's been an utter disaster ever since. Detroit used to be the richest city in America. And look at Detroit today. It's a cesspool.

Somaliland can afford because Somaliland is a wealthy country. Our economy is growing at 26% every year thanks to the hard work and dedication of the people of Somaliland.

Tallaabo

Retired teachers need a pension but they are not a priority when distributing the meagre resources in the government's coffers.

The government's priority list should look like this:

1. Street children and orphans with no immediate relatives to look after them/ orphans and widows of soldiers killed in combat/ wounded or disabled soldiers.

2. The mentally ill people with no relatives to care for them.

3. Old people and disabled people with no relatives to look after them.

4. Aid for the poorest families in the country

5. Healthcare/ public health and waste management and recycling

6. Rural, farming, and fishing communities/ water collection and the preservation of the environment.

7. Education

8. Road infrastructure

9. National institutional reforms

10. Pension for the poorest people in the country

11.

12.

.

.

Somewhere down the list: Pension for the civil servants including teachers :-D

Of course all this spending should be done after the security forces and the law enforcement agencies get their cut.
