malistar2012 Posted June 5, 2014 Somali president visits Turkish destroyer Mogadishu, Somalia (HOL) -- The Somali state-run media has broadcasted that President Hassan Sheik Mahmoud is currently on a Turkish destroyer which moved closer to Mogadishu sea port on Thursday. President Hassan was invited to a luncheon organized on the Turkish destroyer. This is the first time that a Turkish navy destroyer moves closer to Somali capital Mogadishu. Meanwhile, The Turkish Navy Chief staff Admiral Murat who arrived in Somalia on Thursday held lengthy talks with key government officials including minister of defence and army commanders. Admiral Murat visited the defence ministry where he met with minister of defence Mohamed Sheik Hassan Hamud, the Somali army chief of Staff General Dahir Aden Elmi and Somali Navy commander General Madey Nurow Ufurow. Both sides discussed on the strengthening of military cooperation between Turkey and Somalia. During the meeting, Somali army chief of Staff General Dahir Aden Elmi briefed the Turkish official on the recent developments made by the Somali military in the fight against Al Shabab militants. For his part the Somali minister of defence Mohamed Sheik Hassan Hamud thanked the Turkish Navy Chief for the historic visit to the country and pledged that Somalia will develop a continued and strong cooperation with Turkey. The visit of the Turkish Navy commander to Somalia comes several weeks after his Somali counterpart General Madey Nurow Ufurow toured to Turkey to pave the way for a greater cooperation the two countries. The Turks are leading the way in helping SFG strength it's institutions creating stability .... Development and achievement are moving in fast paced ... We see the economy growing exporting live stock and agriculture has resumed and increased 100% . Somalia has trenmendouse resources to offer as the world looks towards Africa .... . malistar2012 Posted June 5, 2014 Somali FM in china for talks with his Chinese counterpart Somali Minister of foreign affairs and investment Abdirahman Duale Beyleh met with his Chinese counterpart in Beijing on Tuesday to brief on the latest developments in the country in the fields of security, reconstruction and as well as key other programs, but asked China for the implementation of a number of development projects it previously pledged for Somalia. The visiting Somali minister told the media that China was ready to extend their support to Somalia by creating jobs for thousands of unemployed young professionals in the country. He said the job creation program will play a great role in the hunt for a lasting peace and solution for the long-running violence in the country. For his part the Chinese foreign minister Wang Yi praised the federal government’s efforts to establish law and order into the country adding that China and Somalia have very close relations which existed for ages. He said that China was planning to increase its assistance to Somalia. China recognized Somalia’s sovereignty on 14th of December 1960 and in return for that Somalia became a key ally that campaigned for China’s inclusion into the five super power countries of the United Nations. Mahiigaan Posted June 5, 2014 YoniZ, I agree with you and that is how I understood it. Somalia has been a no go zone for China due to the Americans. The Pirate phenomena was a pretext for the Us and Europeans to guard the most bussiest shipping commercial lane and its strategic location which connects the other strategic red sea and the Indian ocean. The other reason could probably be the trmemendous estimated quantity of oil off the coast of Somalia. The question is whether Somalis could seize this opportunity. I could be pessimistic but history tells us that we have missed many opportunities before. Nomads can't grasp the sophisticated Western politics.
