In Islam getting education is one of the mandatory acts that a Muslim is supposed to fulfill in his or her life. Besides getting the worldly education, a Muslim is also encouraged to learn how to be able to read Quran, fundamentals and Pillars of Islam, etc. as well. The lines below discuss the importance of having Islamic education. Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said in one of His hadiths: “Seeking Knowledge is obligatory upon every Muslim.” (Tabrani) Therefore, there is no denying the fact that the pursuit of education is more than imperative to Muslims. A Muslim is supposed to get education from wherever possible and whenever possible. Although the emphasis is on learning in general, however, a Muslim must understand that without the knowledge of religion the rest of the knowledge just tells about life, but not the way it is to be lived in a better way. When it comes to acquiring the knowledge of Islam, there are various reasons why a Muslim must pursue Islamic learning. The first and foremost of the reasons is the knowledge about one’s own religion. Muslims are more strict followers of their religion compared to other religions in the world, therefore, for a sensible Muslims it is imperative that he or she knows more about Islam in order to ensure that the life he or she spends is in accordance with the principles and teachings of Islam. Therefore, gaining Islamic knowledge is important in this regard as it adds to the knowledge of a Muslim pertaining to how Islam can be adapted and applied to life. The second reason why a Muslim must gain Islamic knowledge is the fact that it enables him or her to defend Islam in a better way. In the present world, there is not a great reputation associated with Islam, thus, the need is that Muslims gain knowledge about their religion so that the next time he or she hears any false accusations pertaining to Islam, then they could reply in the appropriate manner and defend Islam. Therefore, to defend Islam in a better way and clear its image, a Muslim needs to gain knowledge of Islam. The third major reason why a Muslim needs to get Islamic education is the fact that if he or she has proper knowledge of Islam, only then can they preach Islam to other people. When Muslims gain knowledge of Islam, they will definitely put into practice and when Islam is put into practice by them, the ultimate result will be the non-Muslims getting inspired by their character and then would be in a position to preach Islam to them. In a nutshell, it is imperative that a Muslim gains knowledge about Islam so that he or she is able to understand it, defend it and then preach it to others.
