The tag for the hearts and minds of the people of SSC continues. It has always been known that amongst the SSC politicians, some support Puntland, whilst others support Somaliland and then there are those who support a Khaatumo independent of both Puntland and Somaliland; however, what really matters at the end of the day is Public Opinion.

 

First and foremost, the people of SSC are adamantly against any association with a secessionist entity which they consider stands for against everything the Darawish family have stood in the history of Somalia. Secondly, there is a good majority of the SSC community, who possessing the clannish nature of Somalis, wish to continue to be part of Puntland, and then there is of course a segment that wishes to forge their own destiny and build a Khatumo State of Somalia.

 

Now this Taleex conference is supposed to help the politicians of this community hammer out their differences, however, I believe neither one of these 3 opposing groups of politicians are ready to reach an agreement, especially if that agreement will go against their political ambitions. So here in lies the predicament for these guys: they either all go to war with each other to force their politics on the other opposing groups--something which I find impossible, knowing full well where public opinion lies and no wise politicians would go against public opinion or call for another conference.

 

So I predict business as usual. Unfortunately, the only option left to these guys is to kick the can down the road...yet again!

Somalilanders or Reer Waqooyi if you like will alwyas sort out their political differences cool headed. Unlike our brethren in the South who believe that if two parties negotiate through dialogue, one of the parties is defeated. What they don't realise is that these communities have an ancient traditional Xeer. These communities are not strangers to each other, they share blood, territories, culture and dialect.

Unlike the South, we can share, have dialogue under the tree and come with something tangible at the end of the day. We are by nature honest when settlong our problems, we never do things ala mafioso, we face to face no matter how bitter/difficult the situation could be.

Unlike reer Waqooyi, the Southerners don't know each other and their is no traditional binding between them. Another difference between the reer Waqooyi egalitarian society and the Southern communities is how the art of dialogue is conducted. In our case, there are always traditional Sultans/Garads to whom we resort to when problems come to the surface. These Sultans/Garads are inherited through generations, not gacan-ku-rimis like Ahmed Dirie and his crew.

My advice to our brethren in the South is, leave these matters to Waqooyi people, it is sophisticated for you to understand, we know how to manage our business.

In my humble opinion, Khatumo will merge with Somaliland ath the end of the day. Reer Waqooyi are very honest when you have a deal with them, they don't have the same mindset of the South/Puntland. They are different in thinking and culture. 'waan trufeeyey noh' does not work in our neck of the wood.

You are a liar. The government of Somaliland or the larger 'SNM' clan had nothing to do with the unfortunate bloodshed in the Buuhoodle area. It was a feud between two local clans in the area over grazing land and water wells which spiralled out of control and was brought to an end by the army; and like the countless clan feuds in Somaliland's long history, this one was also solved amicably.
