At it once again! Somalia: Seven Killed in Clashes between Somali Soldiers

Heavy tribal infighting between Somali government troops in a Village situated in the outskirts of Mogadishu has left at least seven Soldiers dead, witnesses say.

 

According to Sources in the Village of El Adde which undergoes middle Shebelle region, the fighting erupted when both troops argued on the control of a checkpoint, where ‘’illegal tax’’ was collected.

 

A number of Soldiers who were injured in the infighting were taken to Mogadishu medical centers for treatment.

 

Tribal infighting is a persistent problem within the Somali National Army which has costed the lives of many soldiers and civilians. Somali Military officials have failed to tackle this issue which has occurred continuously.

 

Since the Collapse of the Central government in 1991, clan militiamen have operated dozens of checkpoints in the Southern Somalia.

 

Somali government troops have been criticized for their bad discipline record and not well organised.

The Somali Government doesn't have high-quality military recruits simply because of the lack of applicants who want to join the Somali Army.

 

So the Military is forced to recruit some former militia-men and criminals to join their ranks. We need higher-quality soldiers. And the only way we can do that is to create the proper incentives to make that happen
