8 Al-Shabaab fighters die after Somalia car bomb blast: witnesses

At least eight Al-Shabaab fighters were killed and five others injured after a car bomb they were making accidentally went off in the central Somali town of Bulo-Burte, witnesses and officials said.

The explosion was heard around Bulo Burte close to the main town of Beledewyne, which is controlled by government forces and African Union (AU) troops.

"The explosion was very huge and I saw people fleeing from the area. Eight dead men were taken out of the house where the vehicle was constructed. Five more severely wounded fighters were also taken away," Ali Muse, a resident, told Xinhua.

The military said the vehicle was intended to target the government forces and AU peacekeeping troops based in Beledweyne, 300 km north of the capital Mogadishu.

Speaking to Radio Mogadishu, Hiran Regional Deputy Military Commander Mohamed Amiin Adam said Al-Shabaab has increased attacks on civilians and that the officials were aware of "other plots" of the group.

"We have reports now that a tanker full of explosives is headed towards Beledweyne from Bulo Burte and was sent by the plotters," Adam told the state radio.

This comes as two separate explosions hit Mogadishu killing one and wounding five others including a government official, who was injured after a bomb planted in his vehicle exploded as he was driving along the main Makka Al Mukarama street in the capital.

21 Iraqi militants die after explosion at bomb-making class

Iraqi officials say militants accidentally set off their own car bomb at a training camp north of Baghdad, leaving 21 dead.

A police officer said the militants were attending a lesson on Monday on making car bombs and explosive belts at the camp near the town of Samarra when a glitch set off one of the devices.

AUN.

I don't agree with the tactics employed but the fight against the Adoons must go on.

Operation Restore the Peninsula into Somali hands.

MagicBird, is Al Shabaab fighting against "Adoons" or are they fighting against regular Somalis by bombing cafes, hospitals, hotels and busy streets? I'm sure every single member of this forum knows someone who was killed by Al Shabaab, so how can you even support their cause?

They may CLAIM to fight for the interests of Somalis, but their actions speak otherwise. The sooner Al Shabaab puts down their weapons, the sooner the African Union soldiers can finally leave our country

Alshabaab are there to create havoc actually both shabaab and the African union troops are a problem to Somalias conflict. The best way forward is to defeat alshabaab but it seems the more foreign troops arrive the harder it gets to defeat them. Alshabaab have no solutions for Somalia. Alshabaab kills Somalis they will kill Somalis in the market or in hotels. The African union troops are making money from Somalias conflict They receive their salaries the ongoing conflict in Somalia means they will receive their payments. The 2 sides need each other some how. The African union troops are problem but they are the lesser evil in here because they dont go out and blow up people. But the situation remains tense in Somalia because of the warring factions.

Xaaji true. The African Union countries have an incentive for this war to keep going, because it pays their soldiers more than 3 times the salary they receive in their own countries. A Ugandan or Burundian soldier is making so much money in Somalia, that he's able to pay for the living of his whole extended family back home in Uganda

And this is while the EU and the USA are bankrolling this entire operation. That's why it's so important to actually create a massive Somali Army, that's well-trained and capable of doing what the African Union does. Nobody likes the African Union being in Somalia, but right now we don't have much of a choice.

This way, Al Shabaab can lose the rhetoric that "we are fighting to free Somalia from foreigners occupying our land".
