The Manners of Giving and Listening to Adhan

Recommended Posts

Prayers is one of the fundamental pillars of Islam and it is an obligation upon a Muslim to say prayers five times a day to fulfil the daily religious duties. Due to the reason that Salah is to be said at a specific time, therefore, there is the need for calling for prayer. This is why Islam introduced the concept of Adhan as a means of calling for prayer.

In Islam before prayer, there is always the call for prayer. It is the call for prayer by hearing, which Muslims understand that the time of prayers has come and they gather in the mosque to offer the prayer with Jamat. The lines below give some information about Adhan and the manners, which a Muslim should adhere to when listening to Adhan.

As far as the person who can give Adhan is concerned, it can be given by any Muslim who is mentally sane. Although it can also be said without wudhu, however, the preferred way of saying Adhan is by performing proper wudhu. Moreover, any person who commits sin openly, an intoxicated person, a person with insanity and one in impure state cannot give Adhan. Furthermore, women are also not allowed to give Adhan.

Once a person is eligible and in a state to give Adhan, the second thing that a person needs to adhere to pertaining to calling of Adhan is the way of saying Adhan. The preferred way of giving Adhan is by facing the Qibla and then putting the index fingers in to the years. After this stance the Moadan must give Adhan with a loud voice. Moreover, giving Adhan with proper lyre and musicality is also a good thing to do as it pleases the ears of the listener and he or she indulges in praise of Allah Almighty.

As imperative it is for the Moadan to follow certain manners pertaining to saying ng of Adhan, it is equally recommended that the listener of the Adhan also follow and observe certain manners. There is great importance of listening to Adhan. It goes to the extent that a person reciting Quran should stop reciting when he or she hears Adhan and those who are busy in doing something must also pause for a while and let the Adhan finish. Moreover, one must also reply to the wordings of Salah by reciting the wordings after the moadan.

Once the Adhan is finished a listener must say the following prayer verbally:

“O Lord of this beautiful Adhan and the Salah which will follow, give our Master Muhammad (PBUH) Wasila and greatness and an exalted station. And let Him reach the Plain of Mahmood of which You have promised him and let us receive his intercession on the Day of Qiyamah. Without dobt You never go against Your Promise.”

In short, Adhan is one of the major precedents of Salah and it helps Muslims remind of the time of Salah. Therefore, pertaining to its importance it is imperative upon every Muslim to say Adhan with proper protocol and the listener must also follow proper manners pertaining to listening of Adhan.
