Tallaabo Posted December 26, 2013 http://www.hiiraan.com/news4/2013/Dec/52654/somalia_bans_christmas_celebrations.aspx It seems like Christmas is very high on the priority list for government in Mogadishu. I think the Somalia government should respect the religious/shopping festival of our Christian Somali brothers and sisters. Religious tolerance should start form the leadership. Saalax Posted December 26, 2013 Isn't there like over 16000 AMISOM soldiers there? I think it is just a lip service to try and stop Al shabab attacks.
Naxar Nugaaleed Posted December 26, 2013 things like this confuse me. Is parliament, the law makers, that can determine the legality of things or is members of government...
Mad_Mullah Posted December 26, 2013 There are no Somali Christians, stop with this nonsense, people won't consider you "advanced" just for having Christians or Christmas. The only Christians we have are some Daqan cilis living in Norway that have never seen the country and will never go back or some Faaraxs that got seduced by their money/food in refugee camps
Guje Posted December 26, 2013 i know at least 5 somali confirmed christians personally. There must be at least 10,000 christians in all somali lands by conservative estimates, but due to persecution and fear the true figure will never be known. Their numbers will only grow larger in the future. I think the government has no business banning or allowing religious celebrations in the first place. Mad_Mullah Posted December 26, 2013 He can't unless it's from some Evangelic websites. Somalia is a tribal community. No way that one family remained Christian through generations. Also, when did Christianity spread in Somalia? We went from Waaq to Islaam. So how did these people turn Christian? They didn't. Except SOME individuals that converted and are now married to Polish women, or something like that.
DoctorKenney Posted December 26, 2013 Why is this even an issue? The only "Christians" in Somalia would be those who are foreign expatriates who came to Somalia for business purposes, but since those foreigners are so few in number (due to the 23 year civil war), then it shouldn't even be discussed Are we going to discuss whether Sikh holidays or Buddhist holidays should be celebrated in Somalia? How about Jewish holidays or Rastafarian holidays? It's totally irrelevant and no use in discussing. Let the Christians have their festivals, they should be allowed to practice their religion
OdaySomali Posted December 26, 2013 We have far more important issues to address rather than devoting our energy to an extreme minority of people.

burahadeer Posted December 26, 2013 gov't shouldn't make an issue it only hurts in the eyes of int'l community .Why the need for enemy when it doesn't hurt if you just kept quite.Christians or any otha religion will celebrate nonetheless and be mindful that everyone helping thm is Christian be it unisom, european etc.It shows how priorities messed up. Marksman Posted December 26, 2013 Somalia's public relations are so messed up. The government doesn't even care Somalis abroad are seen as heathens, pirates, terrorists etc. One of the least likable human beings on earth and this government doesn't even care. Why do this only to give Somali people the image that the gov. isn't as gaalo as Al Shabaab claims? Pretty sad. Christmas will never be celebrated by Somalis in masses, so this media stunt is very harmful.
Hawdian Posted December 26, 2013 ^ talking out of your *** again . Yes we know you hate somalis and Muslims in general.
Mad_Mullah Posted December 26, 2013 Least likeable human beings? That's a bit too far. People that "hate" us here are usually some crackhead chav cadaans and Black Britons that don't even know who their own father is. To the rest we're just seen as one of those immigrant communities like Bengalis, Arabs etc.
