Xaaji Xunjuf Posted December 5, 2013 Nelson Mandela has died, South African President Jacob Zuma has confirmed. Mr Zuma said "the nation has lost its greatest son", adding "he is now resting. He is now at peace." He died peacefully, surrounded by his family, at his Johannesburg home at 8.50pm local time. Mr Mandela, who was 95, will get a state funeral and national flags will be lowered to half mast, said Mr Zuma. He had been receiving medical treatment for the last three years and for the last six months has been critically ill. He served as South Africa's first black president from 1994 to 1999, after spending 27 years in prison. Prime Minister David Cameron said: "A great light has gone out in the world. "Nelson Mandela was a hero of our time. I've asked for the flag at No10 to be flown at half mast."

Dhagax-Tuur Posted December 5, 2013 History is a true judge! Imagine if he were to turn into a monster and start taking revenge how would he have been judged today? A lesson in how to shine a position of responsibility. When you are a leader, you are not a leader for yourself and immediate, but your thoughts and actions affect wider public which one must consider, and boy did he! 27 years incarcerated and coming out reconciled and looking out for his fellow countrymen despite what they did to him and his people. Strength of character.

DoctorKenney Posted December 6, 2013 He was a great leader of South Africa and my condolences to his family and friends for this loss. But please let's refrain from saying AUN, R.I.P, or anything like that. It's rather distasteful and not a good idea.

Gar_maqaate Posted December 6, 2013 Nelson Mandela was great man but I am uncomfortable with this sudden messiah like adoration of the man and the cult of personality that has developed around him, especially after the news of his death. Condolences should be offered to his family and to his native country but the mass media coverage of his death and this mass weeping and grieving is distasful to say the least. I also think he hasn't done enough to condemn the corrupt one party state of the ANC, which has developed after he left office.
