Homunculus Posted November 28, 2013 Bitter divisions between Somalia's top leaders threaten internationally-backed efforts to battle Al-Qaeda-linked insurgents and end decades of anarchy in the war-torn nation, experts warn. Prime Minister Abdi Farah Shirdon, who has been in office for just over a year, is facing a confidence vote in parliament this week after he resisted President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud's demand that he resign. The precise cause of the power struggle is unclear, but politicians have pointed to wrangling over alleged corruption, personal loyalties as well as Somalia's complex clan politics, where each community expects to be represented in the corridors of power. "The prime minister told us he is at loggerheads with the president over several issues including who should be in cabinet," said MP Mohamed Yusuf. Gar_maqaate Posted November 28, 2013 Somalia's political process stumbled backwards when the incompetent and myopic Hassan Mahmoud was elected president (through negative voting) and he executed the entire process point blank by nominating a buffoon for prime minister. Even by Somali standard those two a*rse holes have been an unmitigated disaster. Those two fcukers couldn't organize a funeral between them let alone run a state. Apart from a miracle the next three years are wright off, lets hope we get to next election cycle with any catastrophes.

Homunculus Posted November 28, 2013 burahadeer;988135 wrote: as usual!!!! next step under UN colony.... One of the problems is the political system that is designed to fail. There shouldn't be any power sharing between the president and the prime minister, The prime minister should run the government and choose the cabinet with the approval of the parliament and the presidency must be a ceremonial position. Hassan sheikh's temperament is more suited as the PM and Saacid can sleep in his house and show up like a hedgehog once in a blue moon. Of course both these guys are unsuitable and I'm not sure if the people down south won't fight over the title of president even if it's ceremonial. burahadeer Posted November 28, 2013 think is more than that; is the eva present conflict between Hag & Sahal and there won't be a solution unless they disengage(separate states),,,one takes ova by force or is run by a 3rd party like the UN.
Xaaji Xunjuf Posted November 28, 2013 ^^ There was no winner in the civil war in Somalia just every one went to his own turf. In Ethiopia the Tigre won the civil war and defeated the derg In Uganda Yower museveni defeated Milton Obote and took over in Somalia there was never a clear winner
