As we all know, the last Somali government that had controlled every bit of square mile from the Djibouti border to the Kenyan border and along side the Ethiopian border was Mohamed Siad Barre's government of 21 years. Ever since that government collapsed, there was and there is no central/federal government that controls the entire country, from the Djibouti border to the Kenyan border. Should the Kacaan be recognized as symbol of pride or should it be rejected like Nazism post-world war 2? If 21 October becomes a National holiday, what about the Rebel movements? Would they too be given national platform to recognize them as saviors or will they be rejected like Nazism as well? NO!

burahadeer Posted October 23, 2013 Burahdeers : But you need to understand that if we compare the Somalia of Siyaad Barre and now' date=' we are comparing between heaven and hell. Somali education was one of the best in Africa. Education in Somalia or Somaliland or Puntland (what ever land or region) is today defined by the one who has capital (Doolar). Only 20 % of Somali children actually go schools, higher education is non-existent and even those who exist are all private and are not recognized in the world.']]]] applaud ur politeness but disagree here.Education was there before Siyad and infact lowered the standard by pushing down the passing grade so he take credit of how many came out of school every year.Good number of northern schools were closed as early as mid 70s if you wana take that into acct.C'mon and Somali education wasn't the best not even close...look at Kenya, nigeria,s.africa, uganda, egypt, ghana, sudan, etc..if you wana compare hell & heaven, then ask urself who created hell when he took ova stable country. If he did some progress on any given area, then look at the following & see if it matches that development. 1.he had 21 yrs of power, something no otha Somali leader eva had or since then. 2.Was a dictator & parliament or anyone else could stand his way...that made it easier whatva he desired good or bad 3.and since it was cold war was getting billions of cash, material including great army. 4.had the good will of the Somali population who were yearning for better governing & were tired of corrupt civilian gov't. did he make use of that in creating great country? NO NO NO.....Opportunity lost.
