How Zenawi stabbed Somalia in the back

Recommended Posts

"Ethiopian president Meles Zenawi and Eritrean president Isayas Afewerki also had allegedly contacts to the NSS. IRIN news wrote, citing an unnamed former official of Somalia, that: "Meles knew Somalia very well, as he lived in Mogadishu when he was a liberation leader in the 1980s. Meles and Eritrean leader Isayas Afewerki “lived together in a villa behind Tawfiq Hotel, north Mogadishu, and were handled by the National Security Service, provided with travel documents and Somali passports, trained and given a Tigrayan radio frequency”, a former senior Somali government official told IRIN".[9]"

Yup, we helped out the Eritreans and Ethiopians and even Black South Africans had Somali passport so that they could travel, I hope people today are happy with their orphanages and small hotels.

Yes fictional. He bombed Hargeisa, yes. Just like Gaddafi bombed Bengazi, but you don't hear them crying about "genocides" and using it as an excuse to leave the country.

The only difference is Gaddafi didn't bomb Benghazi...it was a complete and utter fabrication used by the West as a pretext towage an unjust war. Onthe other hand Hargaysa was literally bombed to the ground...no one denies this, whether pro or anti SNM. Go on youtube to see the aftermath of the air raids and the heavy shelling that took place in Hargaysa in 1988.

+1, I don't use the term genocide myself, but the level of state violence unleashed on Hargeisa is undeniable. A lot of us here were directly affected by the bombing or lost close relatives in it, don't be a douche MM.

And yes, Meles did receive support from Siyaad... Somalia aided rebels in Ethiopia/Eritrea in hopes of destabilizing the country from within, Ethiopia did the same with Somali rebel/insurgent groups. Interesting how the two turned out so differently, since both states collapsed in 1991.

This thread was referring to the 2006 invasion of Somalia just when things were looking up. Not the 1990 overthrowing of the government.

OK, not Libya then, Syria....you don't see the Syrians calling for making their own countries (except Kurds but they are a diff ethnicity). Plus Hargeisa was just a small tuulo, throwing some grenades would've wiped them out.

And by that logic what do the people of Berbera, Burco, Borama etc have to say? What's their excuse?

Safferz. It was the leadership and 'the planning for the day after' that set Ethiopians apart from Somalis.

Right, the TPLF was a remarkably well organized grassroots movement.
