OMG - Garisa Strikes Oil. Video

Good pavement, roads, decent urban planning, trees, parks, food, water and housing for all, health care, education, job creation, etc. Garissa might be a case study for Somalis to look at on how oil money can be spent. I hope it's done wisely and will not disappear in pockets.

 

One well alone is worth 1.6 billion dollars. :cool:

The oil is better of in Kenyan hands, Kenyans are much more civilized than Somalis had the oil be found in Somalia there would be another civil war in Somalia over resources. Atleast Kenans know how to share a country a state and its resources. Good for the Somali kenyans it will benefit them and the rest of Kenya ofcourse

Oil company threatens to pull out of Garissa

 

Saturday 13th July, 2013 on Kenya Broadcasting Corporation

 

An oil prospecting company in Garissa County is now threatening to pull out due to endless wrangles with area residents. Vanoil Energy Company from Canada which has been prospecting for oil in Modogashe area of the County is threatening to suspend all its activities until contentious issues raised by area residents are ironed out. The County risks losing out on billions of shillings that could have emanated from oil proceeds.

 

However , County Governor Nadhif Jama is urging the residents to let the company to continue prospecting oil in the area as the proceeds from any resources will directly benefit them. Francis Karanja who is one of Vanoil company directors says, the company plans to start the drilling of the first of its two exploratory wells in the next two months at Modogashe-1 on the South Anza basin at a cost of at least 2.2 million shillings, though he was quick to warn against unprecedented expectations for now.

Indeed. The Urban planning, roads, trees, parks have all been planned ($2 mill was spent creating an urban plan) but there was finance issues. As for water, most plots/houses have piped clean water (thanks to the Saudis). Now the system just needs an upgrade so the water can run 24/7. The sewage system is currently being built (starting with the downtown areas). Most houses have electricity that's very reliable by African standards and that's very cheap (we only experienced a few blackouts mostly during day time that lasted for around an hour each during a 6 month period). The Kenyan gov is currently paying to connect Garissa to the national grid and a nearby power station. Work should be finished in the next few years IA. Add oil revenues to this and the future looks bright IA.

 

Cam, thanks to the new county system, it's as Apo says. We should get a sizable chunk so if there's corruption it'll be the fault of our leaders.

NFD is better of In Kenya, Kenya is an economic power house in the region NFD never belonged to Somalia, its inhabited by Ethnic Somalis of the Kenyan nationality, its better if Somali Kenyans try become politically relevant in that nation.
