Somalis are awfully inclined to exaggeration as regards to their fairy-tale pride, don't you think? Somalia, as my class six history classes will attest to, was among the weakest economies in their post-independence rise. Due to over-reliance on meagre banana, human labour and livestock export, the country was forced to entirely rely on aid from 70s to 80s. Somalia's debt in this period was equated to 75 years' earnings of its prime exports (for the country to pay back).

However the country may have had a fair military muscles that primarily depended on human bravery rather than weaponry power as corroborated by the 77 war.

 

Laakiin, if Somalia had been in peace since independence to realise it's full potential, it may [must] have superseded some economic giants of Africa today. Some African countries, such as Kenya, had their economies at par with Singapore and South Korea right after independence, but today's comparison of these African and Asian countries is but futile. Had Somalia had the chance, considering it's economic potential and determined citizenry (at independence), I believe the game would be of different tune today.

 

We pray the country gets it lost glory, however tiny or exaggerated.
