As the citizens of Puntland move to vote for the first time in 44 years, we urge all political actors to display democratic tolerance in the spirit of a free and fair election during a peaceful holy month of Ramadan. These elections provide Puntland with an important opportunity to demonstrate its role in the political reconstruction of Somalia. The Democratization Programme Steering Committee includes representatives from the European Union, the United States, the United Kingdom, Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Switzerland. Dr_Osman Posted July 11, 2013 Its a historical day, a day when Puntland goes to the polls. a brief election background, Puntland elections will be an election show-down between Horseed the ruling party and opposition udad, wadajir, horcad fighting for 700 district seats in Puntland. It will be a one man one vote system. Only 3 parties can survive so one is set to go. Once it's decided which party has the least votes they will be culled from the election. The remaining parties will then share remaining district seats among themselves based on how much votes they recieved. The puntland parliament will be shared on porportionate sized percentages.
