Anisa Posted June 22, 2013 It's one of the greatest pleasures but can also cause great pain and suffering. It has the power to rebuild your health, or make it worse. It brings people together and allows them forget their differences. Food is awesome! I was quite surprised to see no one had started a thread about food (correct me if I'm wrong). So, how many foodies are there on here? What's your favourite dish (Somali/non-Somali)? And do you cook?

Haatu Posted June 22, 2013 This made me log on for a minute. Do we have a choice when it comes to food? Anisa, I don't cook but I eat whatever I'm cooked and I've been taught to not complain

Anisa Posted June 22, 2013 Apophis - a foodie is someone who really really likes eating/making food. Seems like we have a baker! I love to bake too, carrot cake being my favourite What's your fave, Reeyo? Haatu - I used to be just like you, but I had to leave home leading me to discover masterchef. Has anyone seen this Somali food blog? It's made by a couple from Canada.

Anisa Posted June 22, 2013 Thanks for the welcome Alpha Blondy! It looks like you can cook A typical Somali diet is filled with carbs and meat (rice, pasta, lamb etc) so it would be hard to recommend you a good diet based on Somali food. It's quite an interesting question, maybe I'll try to write a healthy meal plan made only from Somali food. The main rule is eat more fruit/veg/'natural' foods i.e nothing processed or prepacked. Breakfast: Porridge/omelette with slice of wholewheat bread and veggies/homemade smoothie Lunch: Chicken/fish with quinoa/buckwheat and plenty of green veggies such as broccoli and green beans. Dinner: Homemade soup or a salad Also, try having one half of your plate filled with veggies/fruit. Hope that helped.
warsamaale Posted June 22, 2013 right now my favorite food is ugali, sukuma and fish plus a nice side dish of fruit salad, and a glass of mango juice. heavy stuff.
Reeyo Posted June 22, 2013 Warsamaale- I gather you'r in East Africa, ugali is heavenly when in Kenya or Uganda, lakin otherwise it's tasteless. Anisa, I like carrot cake too sometimes, but I don't have a favourit cake. Cake is all good
