Meanwhile, the Kenyan projects you've referred to are in sovereign Kenyan territories where there are no 'sovereignty' disputes. A little correction hear yaa Mintid. Somalia doesn't recognise an EEZ. All 350 nautical miles (previously 250 nautical miles) are territorial waters. There's a huge difference.
Mintid Farayar Posted June 7, 2013 Haatu, Thanks for the correction (although I'm not sure exactly sure where we differed). Overall, thus far, the situation seems under control from both governments' actions. The Mogadishu government seems to be starting from a 'maximalist' position in order to gain the most from the final arbitration. Start high and slowly move down to a more realistic understanding... So as a Somali, I commend them in that particular area... (I have my criticism in other areas). The Kenyans tried to pull a fast one(last year) by attempting to sign contracts at a time when they felt the weak, transitional Mogadishu gov't was distracted by internal politics. It only got so far before the interested companies thought about the coming international lawsuits a future Somali gov't would file.

The 2800 barrels a day was of the initial tests undertaken on ONE block. The potential is much higher. Kenya is undertaking drilling in many cities from Lamu to Turkana, Marsabit to Marsabit. And the projections for all of these blocks are huge, especially Marsabit. http://www.businessdailyafrica.com/Kenya-to-start-oil-production-in-six-years/-/539552/1766782/-/d7snd0/-/index.html As insignificant as you may make Tullow company to be, its one of the leading companies in Africa right now. What company is undertaking the drilling in Somalia (both Putland and Somaliand)?

Even though Somalia's oil potential is huge and has been detected long before the war, the situation that it finds itself bars the country to realize its potential in the near future. Real and consistent peace need to precede for such dreams to be realized. Or undertaking such a task while the country is vulnerable may jeopardize the relative peace currently caressing the shores of Somalia, and activate the inhuman side of Somalis again.
