Saalax Posted May 22, 2013 Sunday, 19 May 2013 08:01 Somaliland: Press release As member of the Swedish parliament, I am delighted to send best wishes to the people of Somaliland as you celebrate your 22nd independence day this May 18. Over the past years, progress has been made toward stability and good governance. Free and fair elections have been held. Since 2000, five national elections were held, judged by international experts as free and fair, which have seen power transferred peacefully. Somaliland is still treated officially by international organizations as an autonomous region of Somalia, but this ignores both history and reality in the ground. Hence it is time for the International Community to recognize Somaliland. Independent Somaliland will contribute peace and stability in a region characterized by war and unrest. On this special day, I extend our warmest wishes to the people of Somaliland. Mad_Mullah Posted May 22, 2013 This is getting embarrassing. I fully support Somaliland independence and recognition but there's no such thing called Somaliland ethnicity. An ethnicity is Somali, Arab, Berber etc. Pakistani is NOT an ethnicity, for example. But Pashtun/Punjabi is. If anything you should say nationality. NGONGE Posted May 22, 2013 Xaaji X, do you think ethnic Somalilanders are born with the love of democracy, saaxib? In every part of the world we seem to find an ethnic Somalilander being elected to some body or other. Since you are a world authority on this subject, I thought I'd ask you. Xaaji Xunjuf Posted May 22, 2013 Yes Somalilanders are born with the love of democracy Somalilanders are doing very well in that field. Because in Somaliland and in their history and political culture. Democracy was an essential part of their society and still is so you are correct NGOGNE. nuune Posted May 22, 2013 ^^ But democracy is not working in Somaliland(media wise), the government there shuts down the media and arrests some journalists(in recent years). Don't you think Xaaji Xeyraan that our ethnic Somalilanders overseas need to export their democratic pricinples to Somaliland, if they don't do that, then they are not pure ethnic Somalilanders by default but rather sheegato of the Hashimitte clan ibnu Manaaf. Xaaji Xunjuf Posted May 22, 2013 It needs to be sharpened here and there but no need for a mass return they re doing a good job abroad the ethnic Somalilandish people There is press freedom in Somaliland different private owned radio stations 7 different papers come out every day. Private owned T.Vs. Ofcourse we dont live in an utopian society and allot goes wrong. But compare Somaliland to the region its doing very good in terms of democracy.
