As Jubbaland Election Concludes, Mogadishu Government Props Up a Former Warlord to Oppose

Yesterday the one year old process to establish Jubbaland federal state has been concluded with the election of Ahmed Madoobe as president and Fartag as vice president. Both were sworn right after the election. Puntland welcomed the election. So did many in the diaspora. Parliament and local government structure is yet to be filled. However, the passage of state charter, adoption of state flag and yesterday's leadership election represent constitutional and political milestones that cannot be reversed. The formation of jubbaland state also marks very important step toward the implementation of provincial constitution. Puntland and Somaliland were the only two federal states that meet the constitutional requirement of provincial charter. With the birth of Jubbaland state, federalism and local governance is a fait accompli ---there is no going back

 

Ironically, federal government based in Mogadishu has immediately opposed the outcome of the Kismayo election. Even more surprising, the government seems to be itching for an opportunity to interfere , supporting Barre Hiiraale, a former discredited warlord. Ministry of Interior issued statement that in effect makes abundantly clear that it wishes a civil strive and political conflict in the region in the hope that it would gain a foot hold in Kismayo. But it is making a grave mistake to think that another war would benefit the government.

 

The new administration has the legitimacy to rule over the region as majority of the locals have been very involved in the process. Ahmded Madobe has now the authority to secure the region from alshabaab, and work toward providing services to the war weary locals.

 

Let the government prop up former warlords while locals get busy fighting off alshabaab and establishing governance ---that will be a clear contrast

This is a little bit Machiavellian. I don't think the government did it, but you can say that people with ingrained interest that is aligned with the government are supporting this farce.

The government is clear in its wish to see a war so it can argue that only she can establish federal states in south. How else can they compare one man's interview on airwaves to a one year process with more than 500 delegates?

Problem in Kismayo existed before the president got elected , President has no issue with Modaba , but there is clan dispute in the region for that reason SFG state numerous time the regions need reconciliation between the competing clans ... Ahmed Modaba refused declared himself the president , the result we have ten president in Jubbaland.

Ahmed Madobe did what others failed to do. He used legitimate means to ascend to power. The culture of his community benefited him greatly ---compromise and practicality. That is what Mogadishu lacks

We cannot brush it aside any more, there is a black sheep in the family tent . Jubbaland is more than Barre and Gedo, if you could begin to understand what we mean. It is about the future of Somalia and how bring rule of law and local governance back to the South. I believe your kind ( in the clannish sense) has been reasonably appeased in more than one way.
