Remour Has It - Somaliland to be Scotland!

Rumor has it that the British government is pushing an idea of Somaliland having a devolved government that deals with everything internal affairs with complete independence from Somalia apart from foreign affairs whilst having a stake in Somalia's affairs too - Similar to Scotland and future referendum on independence with agreement with the Somali government. This idea is being championed by William Hague secretary of the British foreign and commonwealth department.

 

This is supposedly a step up from federal state.

Not so fast Oodweyne - referendum in the far future, one which Somali government will be able to campaign for the union. I think Somaliland is more likely to accept this idea then the Somali government as it enables them to have their cake and eat it too.

A referendum is must. In any meaningful conclusion to the Somaliland's independence stance, one thing that the unionists must acknowledge is the fact that significant portion of former British Somaliland population want to secede, and expressed that aspiration in a referendum.

 

So Hassan Sheekh has to concede that point. The question is who will participate in such referendum ? Yey talada kala goynta Somaliya ka go'daa? We argue rather convicingly , It is all of Somali people that must weigh in any referendum regarding the territorial unity of the country.

^Oodweyne, I am sure you knew all along (despite the seemingly hard stance) that it will come down to a referendum. And the argument the unionists will have will not be no-to-referendum, at least it should not be, for the numbers are on their side, and with petro-money filling in the New Blood's pockets, the unionists should be comfortable with this idea. Rather it will be all Somali people should decide the fate of the republic.

With regards to your Referendum idea, it is just laughable. Any future referendum will be solely limited to within the former British Somaliland borders.

 

When that happens, there will be border guards checking whether you can say "Tidhi" or "Tiri"... Xiinow make sure you practice "Tidhi/Yidhi" in your day to day Somali - that is if you want to vote NO.
