Turkey sees hope for unification of Somalia and Somaliland

ANKARA, Turkey - Turkey's Prime Minister says he sees hope for the unification of the breakaway Somaliland region with Somalia.

 

Recep Tayyip Erdogan was speaking on Tuesday, days after Turkey hosted a first round of talks between the Somali and Somaliland presidents to encourage dialogue between the two.

 

Somalia wants Somaliland to be part a united country. But the territory, which declared independence from Somalia in 1991 and has been a haven of relative peace amid the chaos in the country's south, is seeking international recognition.

 

The two leaders agreed to continue talks after meeting in the Turkish capital on Sunday. Erdogan says they would meet again in Istanbul "within 90 days" for a second round of talks.

It is too a short of time to sort out the core issues and demands . But the 90 days in reference is when the talks will start NOT when they will end

And by that I mean, for you to think the Turks of all people are here to diplomatically bless a dismemberment of Somalia in the hope they win a friendship in Hargeysa is laughable. More loughable is the notion that the Turkish Prime MInister is double speaking in voicing his expectation of these talks while Siilaanyo is holding true to the separatist wishes, and what he says in public is exactly what he agrees in private

The Turks are mere facilitators not mediators when will Xiinfaniin understand that , their input is nothing but an opinion had they support SL quest for statehood wouldn't mean a thing either. They are not forming the chief negotiators to mediate between the 2 sides they are just hosting the conference. Let first the talks restart again in 90s days and wait for the outcome and than see the reaction of the wider international community who called for these talks.
